Who would know if a tilt column from another car would fit in the Cat? Can't be a hard job needing any custom fabrication or can it? If I'm going to keep this car something has to be done.

Have your buddy that's been buying junkyards check Hollander Interchange to see which other cars match with yours. Then have him check inventory, maybe he's got one? I'll bet most of the mid-size GMs from that year probably have the same column dimensions and mounting. Then it's a matter of finding one with tilt.

I was looking for a donor car, Bonneville is just about the same car except the wheelbase is close to 2" longer but every time I find even a near worthless carcass the sellers want insane money. I hate hearing these stories on Forum posts that all these guys got their donor cars for a couple hundred bucks and every time I find one the sellers want 3 to 4 thousand - and I'm not talking about muscle or collector cars, just unpopular early sedans!

I figure this year column should be easy as there isn't any ignition, cruise control or wiper/washer controls in the column to fuss over. It would be even better if there could be a smaller wheel, the Cat's wheel looks huge!

I was over at one of the bigger yards yesterday and was surprised, I expected to see a lot of older cars. A few rotted model A's, they're worthless, made by the millions and parts are readily available, cheap too. Some old Checker Cabs, and Corvairs. Mainly a sea of old mid sized trucks and buses, Japanese cars of every kind and their specialty these days are the LSX equipped cars and trucks starting in the late 90s. Seems to me the right couple of guys could stand to make a load of money salvaging those LS motors and fixing the lightly damaged trucks and SUVs.

Every single production LS Engine has block piston ring sealing issues.
Need a Dart LSNX BLOCK For Big HP past 600 mark.

Pontiac V8 & BBC still best.
I Judge how good an engine is by the amount of Factory production parts you can reuse to Drag Race with Fullbore.

LS YOU MUST BUY ALL NEW TO DRAG RACE SERIOUS HARD.
TERRIBLE VALUE REALLY.

Every single production LS Engine has block piston ring sealing issues . . . . . . . . .

I read in one of the Performance mags just this past spring GM had addressed the ring sealing problem in late production LS2, and LS7 (LS3 was fixed) when GM was refining the new C7 LT1 motor. I'll google it, see what it said.

Its the Top Deck Surface of all LS & X Engines that is the problemn
Thus the Top 2 inches of piston cylinder wall is prone to flexing under high psi cylinder pressures and High Piston to cylinder wall thrust loads.

I posted the info last month on Digital Corvette.
Posted the Full article from Engine Labs.

All have been had and lied to LS POWER Being superior.
