if your buying a musclecar do your research carefully

I see reports like this frequently, read thru it!
most guys buy project cars not collector cars with a verifiable history, but its always nice to know what your car left the factory with, its options, accessories and original color etc. just be aware theres a good many cars that are represented and sold as, or sold as cars that are though to be more expensive and rarer cars that are not, how they left the factory, or CLONES" of cars with far rarer or more expensive options.
some rather shady characters figure if you slap the correct engine and transmission in the correct car ,or rare trim pieces, or maybe modify a car slightly, that you can significantly increase its collector value but thats not saying its an original car or worth the price you pay unless you can verify originality
if you don,t read links its sure to cost you a good deal of extra time and money

the yenko tribute we built gets a small percentage of static over this issue... neither of us has claimed its a real yenko camaro, and anyone that thinks they can get a real yenko camaro for our asking (or even double our asking price) is a retard. but by the vin its an original v8 car, when we got it she was dressed up like a z/28, at some point in its life it had a cage installed, we got her with a 5gal harwood fuel cell out back. so it had the pro street stance and the big ass cowl and we said hey man, lets tribute a car like this: yenkos are the toughest 69 camaros around, lets build the yenko that someone would have been kicking ass with in the early seventies, once the car was a bit used and maybe traded hands once or twice already... put a fresh coat of hugger orange on it and keep the street fighter in the ring. so we ended up with this:

at the same time someone who is going to buy a quiche eater ultra stock factory pebble beach style car is also gonna be paying serious coin for that kind of car and i think the buyer needs to beware of shit like that because you cant just drop the kind of money that these cars cost sight unseen and not knowing what it is you are buying. having real friends, trusted friends, in the hobby who you can turn to to verify some of the things the seller claims and or hiring a camaro or trans am or mustang or whatever historian to come and consult for you on a big time purchase for a nut and bolt original car can save you alot of money and heartache.

should sellers be 100% honest with their customers? i always am and ive never gone hungry... but some people are just liars, and buyers need to be aware that there are such things as liars in the car industry and need to take the necessary steps to protect themselves because its their money.

to touch on this really quick, a car dressed up like a yenko is worth more than a car dressed up like a z/28... because people want that look more than another look. same in the mustang game for guys that want shelby looks without shelby prices. or boss looks or whatever. and i promise if you heard our camaro chopping at idle, or blowing the tires off rolling down the street, youd slap the guy that goes "yea its nice but ITS NOT A REAL YENKO" as if that mattered...

Its Beautiful Phil.
I agree with You.
I would like to see more original Race Car Musclecars left restored unmodified as they were by original owners.
Not many have survived .

nice looking clone PHIL !
Quick story, back in the day, almost every hot rod type magazine had full page adds for motion performance which was a big supplier of performance parts and cars, back in the late 1960- 1970s,I drove up there to buy a bunch of parts all the way from florida back in about 1970,
I was shocked, and very disappointed to find it was a phone boiler room operation,a rebuilt run down gas station that was doing a drop shipping business that had almost nothing on premise at the time I was there, this was before there was an internet and almost 100% of their reputation was based solely on big glossy sales adds ,and that reputation that was the result of the adds in the magazines, was not in my opinion based on much more that carefully planed hype and a few cars that they had built and had magazines test. the picture below actually shows almost the whole store and lot!
they came off looking like a big operation, when in reality they were drop shipping 99% of the products, and most of the guys answering the phones had had little mechanical or performance expertize.
one of my friends fathers was rather well off financially and purchased a 1970 450hp chevelle upgraded to 500 hp from them, while the car looked and sounded nice it was hardly what you might call fast or in my opinion, nor worth the premium price paid for it, while I,m sure it would bring big bucks today if it had remained in good shape with the proper documentation, we quickly found that both my 1965 lemans and Larry Bs car was quicker

if youve ever been to the summit racing store in McDonough georgia you know what a decent speed shop should look like

took three weeks once it got back from the body shop. those three weeks include a day to add all the graphics (making the yenko stripe work on that monster harwood cowl hood is not for the beginner, believe me.) i think i have a picture from when we first got it back from paint but i dont have one saved here of it as a z/28, let me search my phone and see if i can email it to myself or something.

ok this was after paint but before the trim, graphics, or interior were done. i think it took exactly three weeks from start to finish and about four days at the body shop so call it under a month. yes theres two of us doing this seemingly non stop ever since i got back from the army in september

oh man that summit in georgia is amazing... but they stock over $100M in parts and they flow about $4-500M annually in and out of their doors... theres no single car parts place on earth that moves those kinds of numbers. summit really is the WORLDS speed shop. they have the purchasing power and volume to make big things happen. my long time friend James used to be the manager at murray's speed and custom but disagreed with some of their business practices and went to work for himself opening a place called race fittings ( anracefittings.com ) his shelf stock is mostly fittings and hoses and fuel related parts however he can get basically performance part in there for you. they recently moved to a big 40k sq ft warehouse and are growing fast but he still probably could never aspire to be as big as summit is. because summit is summit.

thanks grumpy for the photo edit!

I went to his website, but you can't buy online, how does he sell enough to expand when he is so specialized?

You must of worked at I-Hop Phil, because when you flipped it, there didn't seem to be any scratches or damage of any kind.

all of his sales are local. his shelf stock is small because he bounces off of a couple larger warehouses in the area for same day pickup of the big ticket stuff... now that hes in the big warehouse hes growing his shelf stock to be able to get on the level of the places he used to drop from. he ships internationally also as alot of the local racers here have family members with hot rods all over the Caribbean... give him a call if you need something and dont mind waiting for shipping, let him know phil with the datsun said james would take care of you... oh and dont bother dealing with that kid eric he has working there... speak to james or call back later when hes available.

the guy has competitive pricing and you still get the same small business personalized service you would expect from a mom and pop shop... even tho he is in fact expanding his reach.

i'll start a thread here in a little bit that features atleast some parts that may or may not have originated at his shop.
