I'm Here To Learn A Thing Or Two

Hi all,

I'm currently partly rebuilding a motor, and I joined to read some tips and see what experiences people are talking about here. My own motor is running an aftermarket turbo, and I've found one broken ring and another with a chunk missing. I'm replacing the rings, rod bearings and pistons. The bearings showed some wear, but not bad. The pistons had only a tiny amount of damage, but I bought a set that came with the rings. All of the bearings and the pistons are standard size. As I put it all back together, I am reading up on the best ways to do things. I hope to find some good things here to help me out.

Thanks!

don,t be in a rush to reassemble the motor until you carefully inspect and accurately measure all the components and related clearances
don,t assume anything, deal in proven facts
there's a bunch of related threads on any component, you will be doing yourself a disservice by ignoring the info readily available.
just reassembling with a few new parts could very easily result in a motor that's far less durable/reliable
be sure you check ring end gaps carefully

So you bolted a turbo onto your stock engine and the rings expanded from the heat to the point that the gaps closed up and locked in the bores, thus breaking the pistons. What do you plan to do different next time?
