"The Test
For this test, we turned to our friends at Golen Engine Service in Hudson, NH, to help us build and dyno each combination. Based on what most people would build, we assembled a mild 383 LT1 capable of making good, streetable power on pump gas. With a target compression of 11:1 we had each head decked to 54-55 cc combustion chambers. Since this was going to be a street engine, Comp Cams sent us a very mild 280XFI camshaft, which features 230/236 degrees of duration, 0.576/0.570-inch lift with 1.6 ratio rocker arms on a lumpy 113 LSA"
the test results were interesting, especially if you pay attention to the rest of the combo, its a 383 with a 230/236 duration cam, its rather obvious that the cam selected, is about ideal for the smaller heads in that combo, for a street strip car combo, but the compression and cam are a bit smaller than ideal for the larger heads even thou they still responded well.
notice regardless of the heads used the engine volumetric efficiency seems to peak near 5000rpm, a bit more cam like a

on an LT1 core would have made the better heads produce better results, that were more representative of their potential, but would have been a bit much for a street car or street gears and stall speeds
