There's so much data here, we simply don't have room to dissect it all, but you have it now, so you can choose the mufflers you are interested in and run the numbers through Excel if you are really serious about eking out every last horsepower. If so, Rick Anderson says to pay particular attention to the average horsepower between 4,700 and 6,600 rpm. This range is critical for drag racing this combo. Rick says the best muffler in that range is the Bassani Real Street, but it's probably too loud for the street (and that's saying something coming from Rick). The Hooker MAXflow, both Borlas, and the MagnaFlow closely followed the Bassani RS with good average horsepower in that range. In the end, we say find one that sounds good to you and your wallet and go have fun.

keep in mind adding an (X) pipe blends and splits the PULSED flow between the two sides of a dual exhaust , effectively cutting the flow each muffler sees in half. this reduces the restriction to flow.

Pickup Truck Muffler - Drone Free HP For Your Truck
Pick Up 20-Plus Hp For Your Pickup With Dynomax's New VT Muffler
From the November, 2010 issue of Circle Track
By Rob Fisher

Dynomax VT Muffler
Now, we know that a street performance muffler has no place on an oval track race car, but let's face it, each and every one of us tow our cars to the track with a truck of some type. Recently, DynoMax Performance Exhaust introduced the DynoMax VT muffler, a revolutionary, high-flow stainless steel performance muffler that controls irritating drone while ensuring maximum performance on a full-range of street applications for muscle cars, SUVs and, of course, trucks.

The DynoMax VT muffler features an exclusive, precisely calibrated patented internal valve that ensures maximum performance and provides a drone-free experience in the vehicle. The 100-percent welded stainless steel muffler is available in a side inlet/center outlet 14-inch body length and a side inlet/side outlet 16-inch body length. Inlet/outlet bushing diameters include 21/4-, 21/2-, and 3-inch sizes. That means it can easily be fitted to a wide range of vehicles.

The new muffler also includes slotted bushing ends; exclusive Continuous Roving Fiberglass (CRF) technology that absorbs additional unwanted interior resonance and provides a rich, deep performance tone; and a high-impact finish.

The new muffler-engineered to deliver the DynoMax's trademark "Drone-Free Performance"-offers the flow characteristics of the legendary DynoMax Ultra Flo welded muffler, through a straight-through unrestricted design that is dyno-proven to support up to 2,000 cfm and 2,000 hp. But oval track racers should love the extra power and gas mileage they get from their trucks.

"I was very impressed with the DynoMax VT muffler. For years, manufacturers have been searching for a way to cancel out drone without losing power, performance and sound. The VT muffler does that," said Ed Hanson, owner of Ed Hanson's Muffler Service, Spring Valley, California. "We've been using it for a couple months on a shop vehicle and we've even noticed an improvement in gas mileage. The VT muffler will be a success."

dr1.jpg

In exhaustive development of the VT muffler, DynoMax undertook a number of different tests including putting the muffler on the flow bench where it flowed 841 cubic-feet-per-minute flow, compared to 588 cfm and 373 cfm for some other popular brands. In addition, when DynoMax bolted the VT onto a 2009 Chevy Silverado it saw an increase in 23 hp over the stock mufflers. And extra horsepower is something every oval track racer can identify with, whether it's in our race cars or in our tow vehicles.

The new stainless muffler is covered by a limited lifetime warranty and exclusive 90-day Performance and Sound Guarantee, an offer that lets enthusiasts try the muffler for 90 days. If you don't like it, return it within 90 days for a full refund of its purchase price. In addition if you buy one at a participating retailer any time through August 31, 2010, you can get a $25 mail-in rebate.

I FOUND THIS INFO POSTED ON A DIFFERENT SITE

"installed new exhaust with Dynomax VT mufflers; quiet at idle and at cruise AS advertised, but flapper valve made car sound like a coffee can full of nuts and bolts as some rpms. Dynomax sent another set w/ heavier spring; still no go. To their credit, they sent a set of (no moving parts) Super Turbo mufflers. Mechanic surmises that the VT muffs would work on a basically stock engine W/O too much cam. I was disappointed that they did not work out as it really sounded healthy when you put your foot in it.

Oh well, hope my misadventures help someone out..."
