look at the area,s mostly aspen and grass cover,
this is the type of area I've concentrated on, and where I've found almost all the elk Ive ever killed, hence my advise that an accurate rifle that reaches 250 yards and has a 200 grain or heavier bullet is almost always going to have the range and punch required, and why my late hunting partner (Ron) had zero issues using a browning BAR in 358 win caliber throwing a 250 grain speer at about 2300 fps.
notice this type of cover differed a great deal from the wide open fields and common pictures you see in magazines, that are usually taken in parks like yellow-stone , that make most guys assume youll need a longer range rifle that can make 500 yard shots
