Grumpy... quick little THANK YOU !!! OUTSTANDING Site!! ....just joined, have been researching, and reading your posts over and over, regarding the SBC Edelbrock STR 10 Cross Ram intake..as I have one sitting on the shelf and want to put it to use on my 84 Z-28 mainly because I have yet to see one on anything in my area. Have numerous carbs to choose from...sadly not the 390's I've seen mentioned frequently ...but I do have a new set of 9776's and 4777-C's to work with. I can not tell you how impressed I am with this site as it gave me SOOOOO much needed info....with that said, I will contribute to the cause to help maintain this Mother Lode of info...CUDO'S to you and anyone who has helped with this site !!! You will see payment to your donation site also.. Thank You, Capper

What do you have for an engine in your 84 Z28? I have an 84 TA.

350, .040 over, Voodoo 268 Bumpstick, Comp Roller Rockers, World Sportsman II-64 cc heads, Edelbrock Performer w/ Holley 650 DP...Headman long tubes into 3" complete tubes, Headman X pipe crossover mid way...ending up in Outlaw mufflers. 5-spd T56, 373 Auburn set up in the rear .....It's a Frankenstein...but it turns many heads..

Nice.
On my shelf I have the Offenhauser crossram version with both single and dual quad top plates.
I also have an Edelbrock XC-8 crossram and an SY-1 Smokey Ram.
So I will be following your thread closely.

Ive had good results with a smokey ram with a 750 cfm holley and
Ive used the offanhauser cross-ram with several carb combinations
and gotten good results, Id generally prefer two 450-500 cfm carbs on the cross-ram but two 600 cfm would work just fine!
the important thing is carefully matching the throttles /linkage and maintaining a constant 5.5 psi of fuel pressure and Id sure prefer a fuel pump that would be rated to supply about 120-140 gph at 5 psi.
a crane 110921 flat tappet solid lifter cam,
decent heads that flow at least 250 cfm at .500 lift
(brodix IK 200 are popular) (as are 195 cc AFR)

https://www.summitracing.com/parts/afr-1036/overview/
good 1.6:1 roller rockers,
long tube headers, a low restriction 3" dual exhaust, (obviously use premium gas)
on a 377-406 10.5:1 or higher compression SBC with the drive train differential gearing
(usually with a manual transmission) in the 4.11-4.33:1 range seems to work rather well
especially in a 3000 lb or lighter car, if you drive the car like the devil himself was after your soul and was only 100 yards behind you and gaining on every lap!(so it rarely drops below 3500-rpm and spends a good percentage of the time bouncing between 4500 rpm and 6500 rpm

I've got a few other intake set-ups also...but this cross ram is calling at me....I've got an 84 Vetter w/ 355 that has the aftermarket Cross-Ram on a Weiand intake set up that runs so sweet...( was a c ustom Aftermarket set-up years ago) ...figured I'd somehow get this old school set up off the shelf and back into service if for nothing other than to be a conversation starter...hahahahahahaaha.
What you got in that T/A ?

It's a 334 SBC (stroked 305). Yeah, I know, but it was done in the 90's at the time that CT was talking about adopting California emissions standards.
I had to park it for over 15 years because the engine developed problems. I tore into it a couple of years ago and found that it ate the camshaft. Because the cylinder heads I received from RHS were not what I ordered. Ultimately my fault for assuming that they were the professionals (and correct), but I didn't double check and measure. I managed to resurrect it and this time around it will have all the emissions crap removed because it is now over 25 years old.

I worked a 305 in an El Camino few years back...had no major complaints for on the street...actually smoked quite a few of them 5.7's along the way too....for me...It's all in having fun and personal enjoyment....and doing some of that stuff to just make others scratch their heads.... Yeah Man!!
