Jeep Wrangler Dana 30 & Dana 35 Builds with 5.13 Yukon Gears

How did you determine 18 inch pounds of preload on pinion nut without torque wrench to know how tight to get it. Isn't it specific? I know it won't back off because it is a self locking nut.
It's an uncommon Dana rear with a crush sleeve.
Sets up like GM 10-bolt.
Gentle Brute Force with my Snap On 4-foot breaker bar 3/4 drive socket Diesel semi Truck style with Kent Moore Vintage GM 1957-79 Pinion companion flange holding tool made from high grade Steel.
Apply 400-1000 ft/lbs to collapse crush sleeve. 1/100 turn..
Stop remove Kent Moore tool.
Check rotational torque with inch pound torque wrench.
12-16 inch pound called for new bearings.
At 17.
Royal Purple 75-140w.
Ultra slick slippery I know it reduces rotational torque 2-5 .
Usual hit 22.
17 feels good. Stopped.

Muscle with gentle touch.

Got the Inboard hidden axle seals installed, Pinion bearing cups & Front Pinion Bearing with Oil slinger pinion depth shim installed I wanted to set correct depth.
See what I can get done today.

I got the Ring Gear Mounted to the Diff carrier and torqued down to 55 ft/lbs .
The Pinion gear installed.
Made a pair of checker bearings for the carrier that just slip fit .001" over size.
Used my Cordeless Dremel & finished up with a Cratex wheel for a smooth mirror finish.
You only want to use Timken Roller bearings as a Standard for making checker bearings. All others brands most are China now parts stores sell You, will be off as much as .005".
Timkens are the best & only to use.

Finesss needed to make accurate checker bearings.
Hardened tool steel the Timken bearings, can only grind to remove material.

Carried the Rear Dana 35 out of my basement this morning by myself & onto my car trailer.
Went out & bought a new Lisle wheel stud installer from O'Reilley Auto for $36.99.
Bought 2 new lugnuts also.
The new Lugnuts threads pulled out after 3-4 stud installs, China made steel.
Found original rusty 1957 Pontiac 9.3 lugnuts & the threads held up. Good Old Vintage made in the USA Steel is Superior !

When you need to do precision grinding & cutting or fitting hardened tool steel parts & can not use a Dumore Tool post grinder on a lathe nothing is better than the original Dremel.

Since its a front 4x4 differential the Dana 30 it has a Reverse Rotation Gearset.
The Concave side is actually the drive side.
The Convex side is the coast side.

Mirror 180 opposite of rear wheel drive Hypoid Ring & Pinion Gearsets.
I went with .007 " backlash on the Front Dana 30.
People seldomn drive in 4wd all the time on the road & highways unless its winter time or going offroad mudding.
Then its speeds 1-45 mph max typical.

That is wrap on this Cash $$$ Government Sidejob project.
Left enough to help many out.
Got my own secrets to get it dialed in perfect the Gear tooth patterns. No one can duplicate my work.
I like it that way.

My friend picked up the Jeep Wrangler D35 & D30 & paid me in full with a Tip $$.
He asked How in the F did I carry the fully assembled Diffs outside by myself out the basement at near 50 years old... ? !
I said its Mind Over Matter.
All Diesel Mechanics have super human strength.
Mine is Triple or quadruple of most people. !

LOL
