I've read here any number of times that some guys consider their rifles to be "just another tool".

I admitted in another thread that I get attached to rifles. upon reflection I realized that I also feel an attachment to mechanical tools that I have used for decades...or is there some emotional attachment you guys feel for your rifle?

Am I the only one?

I enjoy owning most of rifles I own, I appreciate the feel and precise function, they are partly ART partly precision tool, and like a well built , and restored,AC COBRA , L88 CORVETTE or HEMI CUDA they are both something that makes the owner have some pride in ownership and feeling he owns something too be proud to own and operate, but its a REPLACEABLE, DUPLICATE-ABLE, MECHANICAL TOOL, and while I spent a good deal of time and effort to acquire and tune up,and get to know the little quirks and limitations of each, I feel they are familiar respected TOOLS, lots of memories built with each one but offer me 150% of any rifles replacement value and youll own any of them.
knowing what I know now I could have saved WHEEL BARROWS full of cash by purchasing a 450 marlin BLR for short to moderate range and a 340 or 375H&H caliber synthetic stocked stainless bolt action for general use on elk hunts and sticking to the two for all my hunting.
once you have total confidence in the rifle you carry its makes little sense to keep trying new stuff the money and times better spent elseware but it took me decades to fully appreciate that fact

while this is NOT my 375 H&H sako carbine, in the picture posted above, My SAKO CARBINE is almost an exact clone except, that my stocks about 5 shades darker, so its about as dark as walnut gets.
I found this picture posted on the internet, it could be a clone of the sako carbine Ive used for decades, if the stock color was about 6 shades darker walnut ,
mines about the color of a semi sweet dark chocolate

there are guns that start out as tools, you buy them based purely on function, but as you grow to use them more and more they become an extension of you and your personality
