Hi Grumpy,
I hope it's ok to pm you.

I have a question about my combo

I have a 1985 S10 Blazer
350 standard bore
Flat tops
Isky 288
Dur @ .050 is .244/.244
Lift .450/.450
1.6 rockers so guessing .470 or so with rockers
Ederbrock air grap intake
750 Proform carburetor
1 1/2" shorty hooker headers
350 trans
4000 stall
4.10 gears
Skinny in front
M/T drag Radial 27" in rear
3180 lbs with driver
Looking to go with bigger cam
Do u think I would need more gears in rear
Like 4.56? Or is the 4.10 good enough?

Thanks for your time & help!!!

what engine rpm are you currently going thru the lights with the engine spinning?
what cylinder heads are you using, currently?
whats your engine compression read?
why do you think you need a larger cam?

long tube tuned headers on good heads , with a low restriction exhaust or open headers, will go a long long way to increase power ,in fact, far further than a larger cam on stock or restrictive heads.
yes, you'll most likely gain a very small advantage in 60 ft times with the 4.56:1 gears but its the increased mid and upper range torque that will make the car faster, yes you will gain some off the line acceleration if your not spinning the slicks currently, but if your already launching and spinning the slicks for several yards at launch I would concentrate my time and effort else ware, increasing the effective power band
