I am a retired machinist with a 78 Elcamino. The truck has a well built 358 that I shift at 7000 to 7200. A ford nine with 389's in the butt and a borg warner super t 10 for shifting duties. It runs mid 12s at 111 & I drive it to various tracks in my vicinity. It is a pretty stout street car but a very slow race car.

a 12 second street driven car is considerably faster than most street driven cars and should be a good deal of fun.
don,t fall into the financial bottomless pit trap if thinking you need to always be the fastest car at the local track,
that could cost you tens of thousands of dollars every few months

Rick, I'm running some Patriot Freedom Aluminum heads with 62 cc combustion chamber. ( Cheap but effective. ) A Lunati solid roller with 620 lift. 1/5 roller rockers on the exhaust & 1/52s on the intake. A very beefy spring.

Grumpy, At 72 years old I have about all I can handle with what I have.. I still take some pride in being able to actually drive my sled to the track.. It can be a handful but every time I get behind the wheel I go back about 50 years. I'm not going to try to be the fastest at the track,,, Hell I'm not even close to being the fastest on the street with the bunch of guys I hang with.. :)

were about the same age, and I know what you mean, there are times just getting down under the car is a minor challenge

Just wondering, to turn over 7000 rpm needs some better valve train components.

Rick, 2.02 intake & 1.6 exhaust. 7/16 studs with a girdle. I can't remember the spring pressures on the seat or open. I'm thinking 500 open & 250
on the seat? A stout spring none the less. What in the hell is that thing in your welcoming picture. Almost looks like a puppet. :)
