link to a couple sites with a few bits of auto body info

I recently had a rather amusing discussion with a neighbor who had recently purchased a 1992 corvette, at a very good price, that he wants to rebuild, now hes, always been a mopar (Chrysler/Plymouth/dodge ) guy, and mostly re-built 1960s-70s road runners, super bees, and cudas etc. and this is his first Chevy.
So, having lived in this neighborhood for about as long as I have, he knows Ive been building both Chevy and mopar engines for decades ,and Ive helped him build a couple 440 dodge and Plymouth engines a few years ago, so he stopped by to ask, if there were any places that had access to older Chevy corvette body parts, and seemed absolutely shocked to find out that there were many times as many sources for older corvette engine and corvette body components than he had ever imagined.
he had built and restored mostly early dodge and Plymouth muscle cars, for decades and had rarely paid much attention to Chevy cars or suppliers.
Now he was almost overwhelmed by the options , far exceeding what he ever had when building those mopar cars.
now I find it rather amusing that many guys get so focused on some specific brand, like Chevy Plymouth, dodge,Olds, Buick,Pontiac, ford, caddy,or AMC, that they are now even aware of what is going on with the rest of the guys in this hobby1
you may be a Chevy, Olds,or a Pontiac or dodge or ford guy at heart but that should not keep you from being aware of or appreciating a well build Buick, or AMC car!
especially, if you realize how much more difficult it is to find parts for and build the less popular brand cars, anyone can find parts for a popular car like a 1969 camaro or a 1967 corvette , or build a 383 or 454 chevy engine, its takes a bit more effort to build a 455 buick, or a 401 amc or a 500 caddy, or stick it in a 1933 buick, body,or a 1968 AMX

holy crap i got a weird dejavu feeling when i saw that AMX... looks exactly like the neighborhood i lived in when i was stationed in ft irwin, california. not kind of like... EXACTLY like, down to the materials, colors, trees, everything.

I think You should be the trend setter Phil.

Most highly prized & sought after musclecars are not easily affordable today without $50 K cash or a Bank Note in hand to pay it back

LS1 in your Datsun 280Z.

THAT 1981 TURBO TRANS AM IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOU.
You won't believe how good it handles, turns on a dime, stops fast, Beautifull body style that never disapoints you.
None understand till they own & drive a 1970-1/2 - 1981 Trans Am .
You will make it 9- 8 second Fast.
Its affordable to buy it still also.

The early TA'S like mine have a 160 Mph Speedometer & 8K Tachometer.
Side by side. 5" both.
Even at 160 mph, its 100% Stable.
No front end lift.
Lots of rear wheel traction.

Same Tach & Speedo a bolt in that 1981 Turbo TA.
Used up to 1976 in the 455 Trans Ams.
I have an extra cluster . Nice. Save it for you Phil.

f-body is the best

160mph speedo and 8k tach. yummy :p.
my speedo stop at only 140km/h(87mph).. ridiculous.

2nd gen f-body trans am dash(much nicer) and camaro dash is interchangeable.

we actually just had a long talk about building that car yesterday when we spoke to the owner on the phone... i think he wants to keep the 301 but we are going to convert it to a four barrel tbi style efi throttle body, new computer and ignition parts, upgrade the turbo and fueling, and maybe dust off some old suspension tricks as well... then she'll fly again. probably going to get that started this year sometime. the owner is not a wsuper high performance guy, he just like relatively fast muscle cars... i think if we bring the car around 450 horses to the tire, he'll be a really happy camper.

if i ever got my own 79-81 t/a i think i would make an effort to pull out all the stops, compound turbochargers like the big diesels, 50 psi boost, 8000 rpm and somewhere between 400-440 cid, loking for 2000+ hp to put my star spangled boner up the ass of one of those twin turbo lamborghinis down here. ah one can dream....

i know rick probablY fell out f his chair laughing when he read it... yes i meant STAR SPANGLED B-O-N-E-R

A BIG RED WHITE AND BLUE, TRIUMPHANT, MUSCULAR, VEINY BASTARD

i think ive made enough dick jokes this week now haha

You don't need HP Of 3-4-5 Normal cars Phil.
50 psi makes it tough to keep headgaskets.

500-600 HP will do a lot.
2Nd gen F Body TA Chassis is amazing pushed hard.
Just have to find out for yourself buying one & driving it.
Solid axle leaf spring rear works.
Efficient & wastes not like IRS Rear.

Kicker shot of nitrous, Street Hero again.
Just like your 280Z Turbo Street Race Machine.

If you remove the later 2nd Gen front & rear steel bumber supports, TA is instant 200#'s lighter.
Used on 1974-81 cars.
Darn 5mph impact bumper laws went into effect.
1970-73 had the Chrome thin strip bumpers like early C3 Vettes.
Made them lighter.
Weld together a Birdcage made of 1/4" steel rods.
New lightwieght plastic bumper cores.
Find a way to make that 1981 Turbo TA Recaro seat yours Phil.
Legal of course.
Thank me later.

believe me i want the recaro t/a... but the owner is a hoarder, and that car is special to him so hes not gonna part with it. i can, however, get one a recaro t/a some other place like ebay or something... when the money's right.

and believe me when i tell you, 600hp in a damn factory five cobra isnt enough to get a seat at the table down here. you want world domination, you use big ordinance.

p.s. aftermarket lsx type blocks use 6 bolt per cylinder head styles... ;)

In the original Smokey & Bandit movie 1977, The Trans Ams used were bone stock.
Not Super Tuned Hot Race cammed. 400 Ci Pontiac.
Only 1 car had a 455 installed.
For the Bridge jumping scene & onto the football stadium.
That 455 was stock too.

455 will drop right in place of the 301.
TURBO CHARGE IF YOU WANT TO.
9-15 PSI Will give 800-850 HP Easy.

Your Street Racing Phil
They are Too with those Twin Turbo Lambos.
They can't use it all the HP Safely on the street.
No prepped track surface.
Its more of a Mix of Road Race, Dirt track, & Drag Race.
A car that can perform well doing all 3 anytime has the Edge.
An Fearless Insane Maniac Driver Like You & Me Makes It Happen.

The Datsun 280Z will be YourTrack Car.
8's on a Bad Day.

The 81 Bird will Do anything a Corvette Will.
Other than Power out of a Corner from a 90 degree angle Faster.
Only edge IRS has. Other than that any IRS is Shit.
Its Dog Fuck Shity Expensive Junk Rear Setup.

A Dana 60 will Bolt into the 81 Bird easy in 1/2 Hour.
Weld up Leaf Spring Pads only.
Lower bolt on plates locate bottom shock points.
10-bolt strong stock for quite a while.

Corvettes are heavy too.
If you know what your doing its easy to get that Bird down to 2800lb wieght with Driver & Full Cage.
