Long Shifter HN-1000 worn out again

Hi,

a buddy has the LONG HN-1000 shifter attached to his Ritchmond 5 speed.

It is the second time now where the two little parts, I'd call them "spring plates", holding the shifter in the center position, became saggy. The shifter has no clear center any more, so shifting is a pain and requires patience. Not what you want in Cobra powered by a bad Cleveland ;o).

We couldn't find a source for these parts, the manual or assembly instruction don't show them at all.

Before buying the third shifter I am thinking about doing some testing with laser cut sheet metal.

Any hint or source aprecciated!

Thanks

Carlos

brand and part numbers of the shifter,
a few related pictures, of that shifter
some clear detailed pictures with the ,
worn or defective, parts laid out on graph paper for a size reference,
and a bit of accurate thickness measurement would be rather helpful here

Hello Grumpy,
So far I only got the information it is a LONG HN-1000, and the detailed drawings I had a look at today, didn't show the part.
I don't have more information yet, but will ask my buddy to take some pictures of shifter and the part as you instructed.
Unfortunately dismounting the shifter from trans isn't possible as long as trans is installed, so he has to remove the transmission from the car.
Might take some days, will post again.

I had a Hurst shift that broke once, I contacted Hurst and they had me send
it back. They rebuilt it at NO charge and sent it back to me. Now this was in the
70's, but you might find that Long is the same way. At $600, they should do
something if this is the second time it's worn out.

What did you do after the first time to get it fixed???

Thanks for the hint about lifetime warranty, this might really help. I sent a note to Long, keen to see their response.
After the first time my buddy just had bought a new shifter as nobody was able (willing?) to help few years ago.

Hey carlos why not post a few pictures of BOTH your cobra and your friends car from several angles, I'm sure most members will be impressed and curious.

Hey Grumpy,
well...as both of our cars are taken apart there is not much great stuff to share, beyound what I shared so far .
I guess I need to update my other post in spring when all is back on the road ;)

Back to the topic...
The services department of LONG will send me three packs of springs, free of charge - they keep their commitment on "lifetime warranty".
Thanks again for this hint, saved me a lot of hassle !

always glad to help where I can, I'm just sorry were not located far closer, to each other as would be great if it were true with at least a dozen other members on this website also, as in all of us being located within a mile or two, IE local! as it would allow pooling tools knowledge and experience and access to tools far more convenient!
