Hello, my name is Dennis, I am from Sarnia Ontario. I have a 1986 corvette, its a work in project. Putting in a t56 with a dana 44. With either a roll bar or frame bracing.
I am looking to build a 383, I have a vortec 350 block, hedman 1 5/8 headers and an lt1 intake(sbc converted).
Plan on buying: pro-filer 195 heads(maybe dart), scat 9000 crank with internally balanced stroker clearance rods and piston from scat.
Looking for valve train/camshaft suggestions on a 400+hp street mannered 383, hydraulic roller, fuel injected.
More of a weekend warrior car that will take me to the beer store and see the odd open circuit track day. Anything that doesn't involve performance is pretty well getting removed from the car.
Sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment, nothing worth looking at anyways.

over 400 is an easy goal you can get close to 500 reasonably with a 383 but 400 puts you in a realistic easy to get to steetable goal. you want 400 to the ground or crank?

I want to get a min of 400hp at the crank first, there are lots of upgrades im am looking at as well.
Found a detailed diagram for putting larger brakes on.
Figure out frame bracing.
Upgrade cooling system.
I just want to make sure everything is up for the job before going to 500hp.
Plus I dont know what kind of mileage I will be getting so I need to make sure I can afford the gas. I mostly do in town driving (10 miles max).
Just need to find the fine line of durability, fuel, power that is right for me.

ID suggest you start by posting a few pictures of your car,so we can see what your working on,
and reading the linked info, posted above carefully,
as it will give you a good solid basis for discussing your build options
yeah IT looks intimidating, so grab a legal pad and a pen to jot down questions and notes?
but once you dive in and start reading , youll find most of the answers and more questions,
its a simple, but time consuming process, thats almost mandatory ,
if you don,t have an un-limited bank balance,
that will allow you to just hand off the car and a thick stack of currency to a local shop!

Grumpy has the right idea going for you it is allot easier to make realistic goals on paper then make them reality that is how I do it I am far from well off but through realistic parts lists and patients I get it done when I am done I always have a smile on my face. If 500hp is your overall goal then reach for that with the 383. 400hp can be had with 350 with allot of parts that can be reused on the 383 build allowing you to build that properly. First is first a realistic goal list on paper then after that you figure out how to reach those goals.

Ah yes just waiting on my winning lottery ticket so I can skip the whole wrenching part of the project.
I really dont mind the researching and price finding part of it. Before this project I did a engine swap in a stand up jetski.
I just wish I had more time in the day to read links that lead to links of more links. (But I will red them all eventually)

Right now the car has the stock 350 still in it dana36 & Auto (forget the code).
The T56 I have been talking to a local guy that is selling it. The trick will be making a bracket to mount to the C-beam, I dont think anyone makes them anymore.
Dana 44's come up on the corvetteforum a few times a month or there is someone a couple of towns over that sells them (used) which might be my best bet.

My machinist said he will steam clean, cam bearings, crack checked(some fancy equipment), assemble and blue print ( just the bottom end). When I went to talk with him about the build he said he will clearance the block and open the oil gallaries too. I know its not hard but he seems knowledgable and once I read more on block prepping I will be giving my input. I plan to be there regularly to get assembly pictures too. He is busy till new years. The block is currently not cleaned. I dont want to start buying untill I know the block is good.

With the Profiler 195 heads that have good flow numbers but people like them because there is lots to open up for future upgrades. Assembled with springs for .550 lift should get me in the 400+hp range. There is the option of getting my own springs if need be.

With the massive amount that I have read... a fraction of this site. The general consesus on a cam would be 110LSA, @ 0.05 230 duration(advertised 280-290), .540 - .580 . I will be gunning for a 10.0:1 - 10.5:1 CR. This is not set in stone, just area that I am looking at.

I will get some pictures this week.
