Im looking for a source for 3/16" (.1875") diameter bendable stainless steel rods about 10"-16" long
I don,t need more than a couple to build a custom fabricated part , but I'm not having much luck locating any locally, ANY IDEAS??
OBVIOUSLY these are available on line and the price is dirt cheap,
but I was hoping to find some place like
LOWES,HOME DEPOT,ACE HARDWARE, NAPA, ETC. LOCALLY
that carries this material , any ideas??

I didn't see any at the depot metal selection and was there the other day grabbinh some 2" angle for my dads trailor

Our Fastenal dealers here sell SS rods 3/16 to 3/8", 32" and 48" long. I think it's in either 304 or 316 grades. Different regions carry things differently in the Fastenal stores based on customer demands. But at least you know now and if not in stock it can be ordered. Don't forget (any many don't know this) you can negotiate better pricing at Fastenal for most every item they sell or can bring in through suppliers.

hey Grumpy, whats it for? Does it matter the diameter I mean? 3/16 stainless rod has a tendency to get brittle when moving it for custom stuff, it will crystallize in the bends and crack. I wouldn't use anything less than 1/4.

I have tried even using 3/16 SS flatbar and it tends to do the same thing. I am not sure what it is about 3/16, but 1/8 does okay as does 1/4. 3/16 is a bastard size in my opinion. Only thing I can suggest if you find it, don't use heat to move it. Bend it cold, or your doomed to cracks. Even platted 3/16 steel cracks on the ends in a brake press

thanks for the up-dated info, its for a very low stress location as a fan belt guard , the original lasted years but it was 3/16" soft aluminum.
