Mac Kay magnesium intake manifold SBC 4 x Weber IDA ?

Long time since I've been here. Good to see most are still around

I am cleaning out most of my shop, too many parts just sitting there.
Today I dug out a very old piece which seems to be rare too. As far as I have been able to investigate it might be a SBC manifold for Weber IDAs, made of magnesium.

Unfortunately it is in very poor shape, but removing the paint, sand- or glass blast it, and carefully replace the rotten sections is doable I think.

So if my findings are true, is somebody interested in this piece, willing to pay just the shipping from Germany to wherever, or shall I better dump it right away?
I don't want to make any money here but I alway find it sad if rare things are going to the dump too quickly.

In case of interest drop me a note

Carlos

FIRST WELCOME BACK!

I KNOW I MISSED YOUR POSTS!

DO YOU STILL HAVE THE AC COBRA?

PICTURES WOULD BE GREAT!!

for the newer guys, heres one of CARLOS's previous posted threads

someone should want it, as its both rare and if in restored condition fairly valuable,
about how much does it cost to ship it to the USA ZIP CODE 33470?

now its very easily repaired, at least back to make it functional,
with a bit of epoxy , or even something like J&B weld,
jbweld_lrg.jpg

mixed with aluminum powder, to make a paste that you let harden so it can be re-machined.

a hand file, dremel and a drill press could easily do any work required,
then machining the hardened mix, of epoxy, back to its original dimensions and minor machine work
( no thats NOT NEARLY THE SAME AS RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CONDITION)
the damage is mostly the result of electrolysis, and not using a 50%/50% mix of antifreeze and water plus SEVERAL ANODES
thats one reason magnesium intakes are generally not made, commonly, as they are even more prone to that type of damage than aluminum, with out anodes.
once repaired that coolant passage needs to have all interior surfaces coated, most guys use several coats of marine anti corrosion paint
(and of course new anodes, and use anti freeze )

Thanks for the warm welcome back Grumpy.
I did sell my Cobra recently, sitting there in parts since almost five years now. First I was too busy to reassemble, then I had some health issues to deal with. Now as I am retired my wife and I want to travel to a lot of places and areas where the Cobra can't come along. But it is in good hands now, a friend - gearhead too is taking care now.

Nice to hear it can be of interest to restore or at least fix, the thing.

Wrt to the shipping, it is US$ 61.- . If you want to have it and it is OK for you I'll pay the shipping and send it to you, let's say as a donation to the forum and appreciation for the great work you are doing here.

while I appreciate the offer, Id suggest you
let someone who needs or wants it, pay you/ reimburse you, for the shipping costs
I have no use for it and it would be a damn shame to let it sit on a shelf,, all they need is minimal repairs and 4 matching weber carb, and accessories to have an impressive induction set up. that would look similar to this

post a few pictures , a link to this thread to suggest the epoxy repairs etc.
and Id suggest you charge a minimal fee like $25 to cover packing materials, anyone who wants it will surely not object to that
