Main Cap Torque Figures Bbc 4-bolt Mark Iv

Okay, seems everywhere I see a table of torque values it shows 110 pounds for the main caps, except in my 1988 Haynes manual which has an asterik by the Main Bearing Cap Bolts line, leading to the note below indicating “*Outer bolts on 4 bolt caps 65”

Old info that has been updated? Everyone else just feels 110 is better? This stuff drives me crazy. Need to know before I proceed. Thanks.

UN-machined SBC blocks have a nominal 9.0" deck height,
its very common to have the deck on a previously undecked block actually measure 9.022"-9.025"

O.E.M. factory bolts use the 110 lb torque
ARP main cap bolts and STUDS CAN and frequently DO require a different torque
splayed aftermarket main caps generally use smaller diameter outer bolts that require less torque

Okay, 110 it is. The question remains how the 65 figure for the outside bolts was derived. I’ll dig into it when I get free few minutes, in about 2086!
