Moly Lube

Grumpy I was looking for a pistol cleaning rod and run across Montana Extreme bore conditioner and was wondering if that might be a liquid form of Moly Lube because a liquid would be more user friendly and another thing after Brian asked about a gun bore cleaner and I was thinking that maybe we should have a gun cleaning and care thread and maybe workbench gun smithing for small jobs
 
Smith & Wesson and Springfield Armory they don't want any lube on the firing pin and firing mechanism in my owners manuals I noted.
 
There are all sorts of special Moly Lubes made for Engine building.
Not sure if a good idea to use on handguns and Rifles.
Misfires failures can not have today any !
Especially Rapid Rire like a machine gun as Jerry Miculek does in his videos !
 
moly is a spray or what is really solvent carrying a super fine compound that drys/evaporates rapidly and leaves a DRY metallic powder , resembling graphite powder,
that embeds into the micro cracks in metal surfaces
what you find is it looks a bit like soot from a cigar
but the micro film is super slick, and works long after oils evaporate and at far higher loads and heat levels, use after every cleaning and it eventually builds a super slick micro super lubed surface that works even at high heat in cases where oil evaporated on all metal with repeated used.. you will with repeated use see a difference in how smooth parts glide & function, clean the parts and apply moly liberally, work the action repeatedly to work it into contact surfaces, run a swab soaked in moly through the barrel, then add some rust preventative oil, youll see results ,over time that may impress you.
moly spray acts like a liquid solvent but in 15-20 minutes its just a slick fine grease, in two hours it looks like black soot., but you can,t see it soak into the micro surfaces, but you will feel THE DIFFERENCE AFTER REPEATED USE

Moly exists as microscopic hexagonal crystal platelets Several molecules make up one of these platelets. A single molecule of Moly contains two sulfur atoms and one molybdenum atom. Moly platelets are attracted to metal surfaces. The Moly platelets that make up the protective layers on your bore wall surfaces slide across one another very easily. Instead of metal rubbing against metal, you have Moly platelets moving across one another protecting and lubricating the bore to projectile surface contact

This coating effectively fills in the microscopic pores that cover the surface of all micro bore imperfections making them smoother. By filling in the craters and pores Moly improves this seal

This overlapping coating of Moly also gives protection against loading (perpendicular) forces. The high pressures that occur between these moving surfaces that tend to squeeze normal lubricants out.

I just figured that a liquid would be easy to dip a patch and put it on wet but I may buy some of the Montana Extreme Bore Conditioner because I do like their Copper Killer and their Bore Solvent it really works good on guns that are abused and haven't been taken care of but it does have an oder that will melt your lungs you have to use it outdoors
 
USE THE BORE CONDITIONER TO REMOVE COPPER FOULING,
USE THE MOLY TO COAT THE NOW CLEAN SURFACE AND THEN COVER THE MOLY WITH THE OIL OF YOUR CHOICE,
OVER TIME WITH REPEATED USE MOLY FORMS A SUPER HARD & SLICK SURFACE,
think of it like a super slick, high heat, dry lube
 
I am going to try some and if it works great and if it doesn't it wouldn't be my first failure or my last
