I noticed an improvement driving with the 1.00" Moroso carburetor spacer plate installed and the Holley Float bowls stay cooler.

I went for a 10 mile ride on the highway.
Ok.
Came back & did a burnout.
Went around and parked the Grand Prix.
Revved it once and shut the engine off.
Opened the hood to check the Olds 425 engine.
Seen smoke !
The Wix Napa Gold Air filter was on Fire Smoldering.
Got the air cleaner off and tossed it 20 feet away.
Caught on fire in a burst of flames midair.

Sheet.

So now there is a 1970 Pontiac 455 stock air filter element.
Air cleaners are not supposed to burn....act as a flame arrester. The Napa Wix failed that.

Been fighting a lean pop sometimes.
Think the stock fuel sock came off the sending unit. See the Fuel pressure gauge dance around at random sometimes inside the car where I have it mounted.
I last had it out in 1998. Its original 1963. I ordered a new reproduction sending unit last night.
Going to mount the Mallory Comp 140 fuel pump back by the gas tank too.

Its my Opinion , K&N Air filters are best.
Never had one catch on fire in the Trans Am ! K&N I still have for it.

I like to drive like that too!!!!

Free's up both my legs for bracing!:D:D:cool:
Yes.
No seat belts.
It was a rare option in 1963.
Found a few sets OEM in past.
Made by American Parachute company.
They also supplied for the Corvette early years.
No one rides in the 63 Gp but me and a few crazy buds.
Don't take the wife or kids.

Ok if I die.

Found an Edelbrock Performer Intake I want used .,$75.
Offy Dual Port Intake works Ok but costing some Hp.
All I had 3 years back to get it going and fit the 4150 Holley.
Amazed how clean it is inside the intake yet.
Around 15 k miles driven so far with the 425 Olds V8.

I had an air cleaner catch fire once on me. It was one of those Edelbrock triangular foam ProFlo units.
When I shut the engine off, it briefly dieseled (ran backwards - hot summer day) and a carb does not care which direction the air goes through it -
it still adds fuel to the airflow through it. So fuel sprayed up and onto the foam element - and then caught on fire.
I will NEVER use one of those units again!

Brian, a phenolic spacer should run even cooler than the aluminum one.

It's Plastic Mike.
Some kind of Black Bakelight plastic.

It will still run cooler Brian.

I had a 2" installed on motor and it made a huge difference in carb temp.
It helped straighten the a/f mix also. (Supposedly)

My New sending unit got shipped out yesterday.
Going to try & wing the Edelbrock Performer Olds 455 Intake, fits 425 & Olds 400 also, all Tall deck models.

They passed a Gas Tax yesterday here in Illinois. Doubles July 1st.
So 87 Octane gas here will be well over $3.00 per gallon.
Everything has to run on 87 octane I own except the TA.
Cant afford 93 octane for 200 miles commute daily. It will likely be $4.25-$4.50 per gallon.
Runs on 87 octane the 63 Gp just High Heat does evil stuff. E10 alcohol boils in the Holley float bowls no no time flat.
A Rochestor Quadrajet does a better job with E10 87 gas. Have one off a 403 Olds V8, have to go through it., Eddie Olds 455 intake also set up for Quadrajet.

The Early Pontiac Widetrack cars had 0-30 OHM gas tank sending units.
Think It was same for Chevy and rest of GM.
