my Brother.In.LAW building a paint booth

WOW! for the first time in the last 8 years I don,t have some one elses cars in my shop!
my B.I.LAW took his 1974 BBC corvette home!
(it was the off and on project in the center of the shop for 7 plus years,)
my neighbor came and got his corvette, that had been sitting for over a year from the time he dropped it off for a brake upgrade,
( it was completely repaired, for over 11 months now, but he moved, just as he dropped it off, and had no place to park it in his new location until his garage was built so he left it!...till yesterday)
I can actually pull my own cars in and out without moving someone elses car, first, that may sound strange but I think Im going to like that for as long as it might last!
I don,t think I can stand all this free space......I took down the temporary paint booth, I moved a few engines and I actually have the ability to walk across the shop without dodging cars up on jack stands..its an amazing feeling!
but after I stop grinning, from ear to ear,and giggling softly to myself... IM sure going to TRY!
I don,t mind a bit working on cars that come and go, or even ones that stay a few days, but when you start to get used to thinking about how you can play musical cars just to get access to your own car in an 8 car garage it gets old after awhile!
(now I just need to get about 1/4 of the floor space back from the wife she uses to store house related crap, like old furniture and boxes of crap she has not looked in for 12 years or more, some of which never got unpacked from the last house where it was stored... she NEVER allows me top pitch old
"GOOD STUFF" in the dumpster, were never going to use, but she won,t allow me to pitch in the dump!.....I think some of the stuff just might walk off on its own.., as in sorry dear I don,t know where it was or is!

I would hope there was some compensation for storing even a family members car for 7 years. AND the guy that left his Corvette for a year, surely he offered something in return?

As for your wife, let me know if you ever come up with a solution for this life's big dilemma ! :D

Grumpy every morning when he first see's the shop for the day.

thats SO SPOT ON!
and the only compensation I see so far is the B.I.L left the PVC poles for the paint booth, saying that since he could not return them for a refund to HOME DEPOT,as they were glued and covered with paint, I could keep them.

I gave brand new set of JE forged piston and a fresh 350 block that go with them along with a used bellhousing to someone just to help put the engine in my car because i did not has a shop at the time. and it did not take 2 month. Maby it was a little too much.

yes Id say you over paid! Ive helped build and install engines for guys that just supplied a steady and abundant supply of beer, cokes, and sub sandwichs, pizza, and conversation, like me, you probably need a few FRIENDS that live locally that do the work because they enjoy doing it vs being paid, but Im only too well aware most guys seem to be TOO BUSY if its your car vs their car your working on, thats the difference between true friends and guys taking advantage of your skills and good nature......family always seems to assume youve got nothing else to do!

I think it's what they were using on DC to remove old paint from C3 Corvettes Grumpy.
Old GUARD will not be Happy.

if you missed it heres some early pictures of my shops construction,
the temp paint booth was constructed of lots of 10 ft long pvc pipes and lots of matching 1.5" pvc and fittings ,
lots of clear plastic sheeting and duct tape, and a wall of air filters on one side,
and a large evac fan on the other side with lots of bright external lighting hanging from the rafters over the paint booth
as stated early on
hes used
(13) 10 ft long 1.5" pvc pipes
(4 )1.5" TEES
(2) 1.5" Xs
(6) 90 degree elbows
(2) 100 foot long and 10 ft wide 6 mill plastic sheets
(4) rolls of duct tape
(4) 24" x 24" air conditioning filters (AIR INLETS)
(1)36" fan and blower housing and some spare 24" diam. air conditioner duct as an exhaust for the paint room.
this allows a both thats at least 10 ft wide x 8 ft tall x 20 ft long paint booth in which his 1974 corvette fits with just enough room that hes convinced he can paint it...btw he didn,t "COVER THE WALLS AND TOOLS" as is commonly suggested he covered the floor and built what was really a plastic wall tent inside the shop,to prevent paint dust from exiting the paint booth he built.he used PVC pipe and fittings glued together and lots of clear 8 mill plastic sheet to build a room, that was about 8-9ft tall, 20 plus feet long and a bit over 10 feet wide with a large evac fan on one end and 4 24" square air conditioning filters to allow air into the booth, with a long section of fabricated duct work for routing the paint excess spray out of the shop.we also hung several larger florescent light fixtures
now I have to say it took a bit of work but it actually functioned reasonably well.. we will see if thats realistic eventually
RICK! thats a good idea! your correct, next time Ill use two large box fans pushing air into the booth through an air filter and only one sucking air out
,through an air filter, and yes we used duct tape...a lot of duct tape, sealing the plastic seams

Did he leave the fan with you or was it already yours?

the box and scroll fans were already mine, and yes I had air filters in front of the evac fans so paint mist was not exiting the paint booth
