That was the response I was expecting :). U should see large increase in power wirh the new cam I am excited.
Need to change rear gears John.
2.56-2.73 not the hot ticket .
Will run better with Isky.

I know Brian it is on my list of things that need to be done the only saving grace I have right now is that deep first gear the 700r4 has. I have a feeling that replacing the whole rear will be in my future.

Family day so while the little man naps found some good reading material to freshen my hot rod mind and expand some knowledge. John B. Heywood- Internal Combustion Engine Fundamentals pdf. I did go to school for automotive so allot of the first chapter was like review but it went into diesel and two stroke operation also. Engineering book. Easily accessible pdf found online just Google. Guess whos up lol little man arisen

My little man Jamie has been sick.
#1 priority all week long.
#2 priority nick @ 4 driving me nuts all week long.
# 3 a moron in New Jersey that used to be OK from digital corvette forum is on my Shitlist.

Try and rebuild what you can John. The 10 - bolt 8-1/2 " rear.
Your not drag racing now short term or ready to turn the Chevelle into a full race road race car.

I got the engine all back together and it tied up ready to fire it up. I ran out of time yesterday to do the break in but it should happen this week and can't wait. Still have all the fuel system to install contemplating getting the new fuel pump installed first so I know I have good fuel at the carb on start up. I made sure I marked the distributor and manifold with a sharpie and put it at TDC on the compression stroke. Hope fully I will screaming like Dr. Frankenstein "It's alive" soon enough.

Also a good call Brian on the rebuild even just quick swap can be done with a spacer plate for now. But I think I suffer from some OCD that forces me to a little farther than necessary. Starts off as quick gear change turns into a complete rear end build. Found this prayer on Facebook today posted by Farmtruck and AZN. Can we all gather and bow out heads and prey.
"As I rubber down the street. I pray for traction I can keep. But if I spin and begin to slide, please dear God protect my sweet ride. -Amen"

"It's alive" "Muah ha ha"(evil snicker) It fired p last night but did not have time to do the full break in along with I was trying to be respectful to the neighbors as it was about 6:30pm 7:00pm and the car has a much louder exhaust note with the new cam. It has thas wonderful idle and scream when the throttle is pressed like an ochestra of high performance parts playing together in some magical music hall called HP. I need the raiin to stop and it to clear up a bit so I can leave work earily and finish this. Still need to do the fuel system but car project on hold need to get wifey a new car hers is on it's last leg and is limping.

COOL JOHN !!!

It's certainly is a wonderful feeling when you finally get there and all
goes well! Congrats on a job well done!!!

well still getting it dialed in the timing has been a pain not sure if my tdc is marked right had problems with the piston stop working with my heads. I might have to bite the bullet and get a new head gasket and intake gasket and degree it that way. I can get it close but not running proper I need to adjust the timing curve also feel like I am still fighting a bunch a small problems.
I need to get the O2 sensor installed got the new plug wires in half hopefully the other half this weekend. I have been cleaning the plugs and regapping them at .040" as I go. There was frost this morning and she did not like the cold stalled out at a light then wouldn't start had to have the wifey come give me a jump dropped the car off and grabbed the daily driver.
I don't want to put to much money into the distributor lost the bushings and springs will be replacing the whole distributor with the efi upgrade as I will be running individual coil packs. But would like to be able to enjoy the ole girl for a little while befor putting her up for the winter.

Try installing a new set of Copper Core sparkplugs John.
$10-12. Autolite or Champion.
Try again.
Old fouled up spark plugs never light the fire correct again.
New spark plugs will.

That's what I am running autolites they are $2.97 a pair at walmart need to grab a fresh set. Maybe pop off a valve cover bend my piston stop and degree the crank again. I also need the proper pointer I have my old one bent down and marked with a sharpie for TDC. Set the timing again how does 38 total sound is there a formula or just allot of trial and error evolved?

Its trial and error finding best total timing.
32-36 BTDC Should work with your AFR Heafed SBC John.

Have to be carefull with those on the head Piston stop tools.
I have one & removed all lower exposed threads.
About .125", 1-1/2" from lower tip end.
Cut down on a metal lathe by me.
Can use a Bench Grinder too.
Clears Valves on Pontiac V8 & SBC.

Been raining around here non stop but got a little time in and got to redegree for tdc it was a little off from where I had it marked, installed all new spark plugs and noticed a real fouled out plug on the #7 cylinder which is strange wasn't that way when I did the wires and cleaned the plugs on that side. But next goal to finish the plug wires off on the passenger side I love the ole zip tie plug wire sepration method (will share some pics later need to take them :? ). And will set the timing now that I know exactly where my TDC is checked three times to be positive. After that will check the other plugs timing to see that the distributor is on or at least close to being on. I wish wifey's car didn't decide to kick the bucket it really slowed up progress and ate up any extra money coming in for a while. Hopefully I can recover by spring maybe tattoo side work will pick up.

all new wires all new plugs set timing at 37 popping out the exhaust. I live across the street from a drag racer and down the road from a circle track guy. I heard from across the street Mr. Coffey you got a fouled plug that's why it's popping. He said he was hanging out with a engine builder buddy of his whose name I recognized as being reputable in this area. Now I have something new to figure out. I will be bald before tge snow flys.

Check for a hairline crack in the distributor cap John.
Does happen on occasion still.

Will do Brian, I will also check the intake manifold bolts make sure they are tight. Doubt it's valve seal but that is a possibility also. I wonder if the flat cam back firing through the carb could have damaged the edelbrock 600cfm. I have a 750 edy manual secondary on the shelf might give that a shot. Oh yeah here are those pics of my home made wire looms. Sorry for the bad pictures a little blurry. Will be brain storming all day coming up with a possibility list to check. All suggestions are welcome.
