new hydraulic cam for the BBC LS6 rebuild

I have a 454 LS6 engine that we have had since 1970. It is from a 70 Chevelle that was wrecked and we were fortunate to get it back then. This was my fathers engine that he has had in many cars over the years and it has tremendous sentimental value to me.

I am going to put this engine in a 1956 Chevy Pickup that I am putting together.

I am NOT going to race this car, this will strictly be a street vehicle that will be driven as much as a non daily driver would drive.

Right now the engine has solid lifters and I am pretty sure it has a racing CAM in it. The engine is STD bore, the heads have a 3 angle valve job, other than that I am not sure.

I want to make this engine as stock as I can get it. I would even be willing to put a mild CAM in it.

My question is can I run hydraulic lifters and what would be considered a streetable CAM?

I want to freshen the motor up. I have not disassembled it yet so I do not know what CAM is in it. I know it has stock pistons and crankshaft (stock for an LS6).

I know it is 450HP stock and that is more than enough for what I want.

Any suggestions for keeping this "mild" or as mild as I can get it.

Thanks

thats not all that uncommonly done with those older muscle car engines,
by the guys that prefer hydraulic lifter flat tappet cams,
and want to retain most of the performance ,
but would prefer to skip the occasional solid lifter adjustment!
and occasionally,
I've had guys tell me they wish they had gone the crower hydraulic cam, route years ago!
