New old Corvette owner

Hello everyone, my name is Barry, I live in North Central Pennsylvania. Found this site while doing some research on which way to go for my small block Chevy build. Lots of great information here. I have recently purchased a NON numbers matching 1964 corvette (so I'm not worried about depreciating the value of it) and am going to assemble a mill with a little more grunt than the original. As of now I have a 1969 high alloy 4 bolt block (un-bored), Promaxx 200cc heads, comp cams XR276Hr roller cam/lifters, Holley Stealth Ram with 42 lb injectors, 90mm LS Throttle body (which I will be mounting on the SIDE of the air box instead of the front to give it more of the original Rochester Fuel Injection feel) Fast Sportsman EFI CPU, fuel pump/filters and so on. My plan is to get this combination together in a 355 long block I have sitting around, and in the car until I determine if I want to go with a 383 stroker or even a 400... The car has a Munci 4 close ratio 4 speed (500 RPM drop per shift) with 3.36 ring and pinion posi diff. The rear tires are 26 inches in diameter almost exactly. It cruises at 60MPH at 2600 RPM and I don't know if I want to sacrifice that or not. Its just as easy to drop from 4th to 2nd and hit the go pedal. I am open to any and all input regarding my this build. Thank you.

Welcome to the board Barry. I have no input to offer by soon hope to join you in 'vette ownership. Like you I'm expecting to face the same dilemmas... so, I'll be watching closely.

Btw... Pics plz :D

I am considering swapping the gearbox for a 5 or even 6 gear box. In fact, I'm sure I will. But first a good 383 or better

We already met, good to see you post. Sounds like you have your act together! There are service replacement blocks available for 64, just have to find a suitable build date. Henry's in Hersey has at least one tested block for most every foundry day in the early mid years. That's almost as good as OE.

it sounds like youll have a nice combo with the components you listed if you install a minimum of a good set of long tube headers and s low restriction exhaust , and of course youll need to get the compression ratio up, into the 9.6:1 to the 9.8:1 range

The Close ratio Muncie 4-speed can't be matched if your Road Racing or Drag Racing.

Wide ratio Muncie actually has an Edge drag racing on launch 1-2 shift.
