New Pontiac 455 Turbocharged 1000 + HP $7,000

Most of The Pontiac guys are on Ebay Richard.
Guys from Max & other Pontiac Forums.
Birdman has been floating around all.of them.
He knows current values too.

It's still in the GM sealed bag and box. My then girl friend (1981) was missing her scoop after a dealer service appointment. The dealer gave her a replacement over the parts counter after hours when everybody was gone and she couldn't stay waiting. Her father found the original parts in the trunk, but he wanted to keep it not saying anything. He was trying to sell it at his garage sale a few years later. No takers so I went trash picking after the sale. It came with two sets of decals in separate envelopes. I tried to sell everything on CL a few times without luck, was asking 50% of dealer list price. Ames was bugging me for it after their guy found out, but by then I was pissed off at them over a bad deal and I stopped picking for them.

Its worth something Richard .
Wish I could tell you the exact value but I can't.
To yet be determined.
Ebay Sales dictate all.
Its a Gamble but List on there.
Start auction at .01 cents or .99 cents.
Sometimes I use a Reserve( has to be worth at least $500.00) .
Run auction 7-9 days.
Be patient.
Watch.
Memorial Weekend is an Excellent time to sell on Ebay.

I can Tell You that My 1970-1/2 Trans Am Ram Air IV Shaker Scoop & 1 Year only correct Dual Snorkle base is worth a lot.
Its the Very last original bought from a famous Pontiac collector I know.
Easy $3500

Brian, I always wanted to sell on eBay but I've been intimidated because lack of knowledge against many who know the system well. I'm sure there are more guys in this boat. For the sake of leverybody here and new members, would you mind putting together a thread using your skills on eBay with emphasis on automotive? Your tips are beginning to spread out on different posts and hard to find.

I'm not home again Richard.
In Joliet.
Selling Unusual items & Rare on ebay to Pontiac guys is like Playing Poker.
GAMBLING MAN.
AND I AM.
LOL.

You have rare. NOS T/A Shaker assembly. Just don't know the value.

Also Mopar & Ford guys are like me.

Thanks Brian. I didn't mean to go back that far. It's the information about when to do certain moves as you mentioned earliel. Best strategies, when do you use Auction, Best offer or buy it now..
When do you have a reserve, for how many days. I'm assuming there is some psychological game to long or short sales, starting high or starting low and whatever else there is. Can you figure out what is in the seller'based on how the item is set up for Sale? (Reading between the lines) What deals can be made and so on.
Myself, I've bought things I quite did not understand how I became the winning bidder - details to follow.
So does this give you a better idea?

I was a top rated seller with 100% feedback on Ebay for many years with an Ebay store and what not. Their fees kept going up while they were also double dipping with paypal fees to the point where it wasn't worth it for most items and I closed down my Ebay store and stopped selling frequently. Now I only use it occasionally. They decided several years ago that it was easier to make money with less headaches by catering to businesses selling rather than individuals like when they started.

Take nice clear pics inside, outside, front, back , boxes, part # labels etc.

For an Item like a NOS scoop Ebay is THE to sell and I found the best way was to start the auction at the lowest amount I would be willing to take for the item (remembering to add 15-20% for fees). Schedule a 7 day auction to start on Sunday night (most people are home to bid) at 8 PM Pacific time (Ebay's on Pacific time) so that it would end at 11 on the East coast. Folks in the East will stay up to 11 to bid at the end and folks out West are usually home from activities to bid by 8.

If you have more than one related item like a shaker scoop, shaker base, and shaker gasket then list them separately. Make a note in the description of each item indicating that buyers should look at your other auctions to see the related items. You'll get more total $ from the sales than if you list a shaker, base, and gasket package. Also mention in each auction that you are willing to combine shipping on the items if they win more than one of the auctions.

For an item like the shaker. Box it up and check for the shipping cost to the farthest place in the 48 states. List that price in the auction stating "shipping in the 48 states only" and don't get involved in any sales out of the country. I did a lot of sales all around the world and the small margin the winning bid is over a 48 states bidder isn't worth the hassles for an occasional seller.

Some forums have an Ebay listings discussion section. If you're not a forum member get someone who is to post about the auction. Example: transamcountry.com has an Ebay discussion section and I'd be happy to post there mentioning your NOS scoop. The more eyes that see the listing the higher your sale price will be.

I could sit here and think of tips all night but need to go sleep.

Wow! See, I knew there was tactics you can't find on any eBay tutorial! This is exactly this scope of information I am seeking. Thank you John.

I have a great deal of never used items I've been too lazy to get into eBay (mainly because I had questions nobody would answer - until now) but I'm getting ready to start selling this week.

One more question, If you have something that has never been used and sill in its original packaging. How much do you ask if that item is currently still being sold? I know I have to take a loss so something like figuring an average sales price and subtracting an additional discount? What would you do - what works?

For currently available items I look up what it's currently offered for (including shipping costs) using a quick google search on the item. Then it depends on the type of item so lets consider some examples.

Lets take tools that sell for $200.00 from an authorized retailer and with S&H are about $225.00 total from most places. If it's a tool with moving parts with a warranty that a buyer won't get from you then you'll have to discount it more to make up for the added value of the warranty compared to say an anvil that's pretty much indestructible. I'd list the tool with moving parts for $180.00-$200.00 shipped as a "buy it now" listing instead of having an auction. Someone looking to buy that tool is online trying to get the best deal today and get it shipped now (probably), they're not likely to start bidding in an auction they might win that will end up to a week later and wait for shipping after that for a tool they need now. Of course there's exceptions for people looking for rarely used tools they don't need right away yada yada yada but if you want the item to go away now I'd list for the 180-200 shipped to the lower 48. If it's an anvil I'd list it for 210.00 "buy it now" because there's really no warranty needed and all the folks are looking for is the cheapest anvil price shipped right now and you're saving them $15.00 compared with what they can google search today.

More info on selling old car parts:

A mid dollar item like the NOS scoop previously discussed or high dollar item like a set of Ram Air heads will bring the most money when auctioned in Feb. or March. This is because there's a huge section of the country where the car guys are sitting indoor on computers because it's too cold to work in the garage or outside. They just paid off the holiday credit card bills in Jan. and know what they're getting for tax return. Never list these types of items from Oct.-Jan. or you'll get the lowest prices of the year. During the driving season they have less disposable income because they're spending it on other stuff and they're busy doing things so they're not online as much looking for car parts.

Big awkward used car parts like engines, rear ends, transmissions sell better in most of the country in late spring to early summer. It's no fun trying to move/load those types of items in snow, ice, etc. so they're a tough sale in winter. They're the type of item people buy so they can get a car on the road this summer. AND, once summer comes it's hot and they're doing other stuff.

This actually a decent time to sell on ebay.
Memorial Day Weekend to July 4th.
At least it has been in the past.
Not selling current.
Keeping what I have.
I am watching 24/7/365 days a year for needed and rare parts.
And for cars being parted out.
Its hard having surplus $ these days for the ultra rare. But I try & have scored big.
Sold Big $$$$ in the past too.
Ebay sales paid my 87 Corvette Roadster off right before the Bam Bam Recession kicked in.
Every single Mechanic was starving. Homeless.
Broke.
I was starving but My Corvette was paid off.
Not Homeless either .

This time of year is good for selling certain things. Holiday weekends are NOT usually a good time to have auction style listings end for NOS parts like the TA scoop. June is a good month for engines, trans, rear ends, wheels, tires, and other things like camping and summer sports equipment.

Ah its a Beautiful Day Birdman.
I have my Pontiacs still after these years.
My 1970-1/2 Trans Am RAIV 4-speed.
My 1963 Grand Prix.

The Corvette is Dead.
Because none would go out and Drag Race on Digital Corvette.
Now the Corvette has become a Joke.

Glad you came along Birdman.
Put the Pontiac Fire back into my Viens.
Hellcats released did it too.
