New to me 84 Corvette

Just updating, Jegs has sent me a couple more emails saying the same thing that they have no idea when the SCE will ship. SCE website directs me to summit.com when I try to buy them and summit's ship time is further out than Jegs. In the time being I picked up these locally that I can return if needed.
Fel-Pro 1094 - Fel-Pro Performance Head Gaskets

Head Gasket, Stainless Steel Shim, 4.100 in. Bore, .015 in. Compressed Thickness

Not exactly optimal but I've looked into the whole gasket bore size issue and come to the conclusion that it's more important to size to the combustion chamber than cylinder bore. No matter what having a 4.0 bore and a 4.76 wide combustion chamber I've realized I'm never going to get an off the shelf perfect fit. I still have till September before their really needed so who knows maybe the SCE's will ship by then. If not I have the Felpro's ready to go and they actually get me closer to the quench I want and increase compression a little bit at the cost of a tiny gasket shelf between the block and heads that I'm not sure if it would really matter. Anyway I guess I'm just venting so I'll give it a rest now...

With the Felpro you get exactly the .040 quench distance you wanted. If for some reason you ever
have to pull the heads, then the copper head gaskets might be easily available by then.

So what happens in September ?

So did you have fun with your dad's Monte Carlo ..... you didn't wreck it did you ???
.

Hi Indy, in September the car comes off non-op registration and gets re insured. CA has no pro rating fee's so if I took it off non op registration today I'd have to pay the full years payment then get a new bill in September for another full year. I just can't bring myself to pay CA twice in one year. That's the reason I have time to wait for the JEGs order to come through. If it doesn't happen by 9/1/2020 I will cancel the order, get refunded and proceed with the Felpros I have now. If I get really anxious I can of course just go ahead with what I got now and cancel Jegs order long before September.

I did get over to my Dad's place to help him with the Monte, but did not do much driving. What I found was failing rubber fuel line parts and some flat tires and such. I spent time fixing the issues(fuel leaks) and adjusting the rear drums when the tires were off and then drove it around the block a couple times to make sure it's reliable for him to take out. I was happy I was able to get it sorted out for him and now it's ready to go for me when I want it.

Ah, that makes sense! It must be more than a few dollars to register then.

Nice that you got it ready for your dad, how old is he ?

Hello all, been away for awhile living life and such. I finally got confirmation that my SCE gaskets have shipped. It's only been almost 5 months, but who's counting. I will receive them this week. I plan to take the Corvette off non-op with the DMV in a week or two, put insurance back on it and drive it for a solid two weeks or three weeks before I start the tear down. In the 5ish months I've been waiting I have a few more projects planned for the Vette while it's up on jack stands that I hope I can work into this performance upgrade cycle. I will start a new thread dedicated to the project when it begins. I've even been looking into rear diff gears thinking 3.45's or even 3.73's may be better for the type of driving this car will see. Been really studying up on the C4 ZR1 Corvettes and I have this crazy dream to match all performance aspect's as much as possible except with my 1984 Z51 optioned L83 Crossfire. I see a ZF6spd in my future.(don't tell my wife)Wish me luck!

Nice to see you made it back !!!

Care to elaborate?

I've always liked the 3.7x rear gear, it's a good compromise between street and strip. If you have a OD trans, then you are really golden! Would you be doing this upgrade yourself?
