Hi All,

First off I want to thank Grumpy for the great site and secondly thank everyone else for contributing your knowledge and experience to the site. I have a 60 Chevy pickup and am in the process of upgrading the transmission to a 700R4 out of a 92 Vette so I am sure I will have many questions before the project is complete.

kevin, if i saw that truck driving around my town, i would wreck trying to look at it!
gorgeous. beautiful work.

who did the body work? the rear of the bed is really incredible, flawless.

the inside of the box is just as good.

who did the flames and pinstriping?

i also really like the way the hood opening grilles are black to contrast the silver/ flames. great detail.

who did the artist's rendering on your avatar? i really like it. do you have a larger version of it posted somewhere?

i have a 700r4 in my 66 skylark but the previous owner did not take the time to hook up the vacuum line or get a proper shifter, so it shifts out of first at about 10mph with no way to manually hold it in 1st. quite slow. i have to go to the online tutorials and study up on how to set it up properly, along with a proper shifter.

the car has 92k miles:

Thanks for the comments. Stan Leinen of Visions Auto Restoration did the body work and most of the paint. The flames were laid out by my brother in law (Russ Freund) and the pinstriping, artwork and the drawings were done by Jeff Allison. They are all truly gifted artists and it is neat to see your dreams put down in a drawing and then start to develop before your eyes!
I believe that there is a larger version of the drawing posted on my website. My transmission and convertor were delivered yesterday so now the fun begins. I am also putting in a new differential with an eaton limited slip spool and 4.11 gear ratio. Should be lots of fun this summer!

IVE always liked the larger cars to hotrod, simply because they are so much less crammed in the engine compartment and much more practical in use for a daily transportation car/truck, yes the extra weight tends to hurt the performance, but you can generally have both a fast and practical car with some comforts if its been well thought thru.
one of the cars I owned that I truely miss is the 1965 tempest/gto clone I owned with a big block chevy and dana 60 rear.

BTW Ive only been to idaho twice (HUNTING) and its really nice frome the parts IVE seen

paul is that the gto at your homepage?
it is a beauty.

my first running car at age 16 was a 65 iris mist goat with black interior.
4 speed 4.11. totally straight and clean, but of course it was only 11 years old in 76!

that pontiac is exceptionally clean looking but its not what mine looked like, (LOOK BELOW)

Ive had several really nice PONTIAC based cars over the years, some were more memorable than others but still most were nice cars
the two best were a 1967 firebird and a 1965 gto, but I owned a 1970 lemans and a 1964 gran prix also amoung others

i am a huge pontiac fan.

i currently own:

-- a restorable california car 70 firebird. my son wants to put a turbo ecotoec motor from a solstice GXP ( tweaked to 425 HP) in it , along with my idea of a heavy diet to remove 800 pounds from the car. fiberglass flipfront, doors, new front subframe etc.

--the 85 parisienne mentioned in the other thread ( more of a chevy than a pontiac, but the body/front end says classic pontiac to me).

i used to have:

65 goat, 4 speed
65 lemans sport, auto
74 grand am 400 auto
87 firebird formula tpi 5speed
85 TA, loaded, fun car.
77 2dr catalina

i love the pontiacs i guess.

Thanks for the comment. I have always had a soft spot for the 60. I knew growing up that I always wanted one. Now that I have one it is time to go have some fun with it.

I just purchased a 700R4, (someone told me that it is actualy a 4L60 because of the 5 pin round electrical connector...don't know if there is much difference other than that), out of a 92 Vette. I am in the process of installing the tailshaft in the transmission and setting up a new differential for it. When it all comes together the fun will really begin!
