Grumpy I mounted a 871 super charger on my 427 BBC engine in my 1968 Camaro
I have a direct drive manual fuel pump for the old style injection that mounts on the front of the timing cover, and an ignition that uses the front damper and a magnetic contact wheel behind the damper, similar too, this picture,
because the distributor won't fit behind the 871 super charger,
I went with a distributor less ignition,
because the super charger and engine firewall won't allow room for a vertex magneto or distributor,
I now have no room to mount my alternator, up front either nor a route for fan belts, to spin an alternator.
nor any way to spin it, any ideas
the problem, of not having easy access to a location to mount your alternator in your engine compartment due to limited space, no brackets, or having added something like a super charger or manual fuel injection pump, dry sump oil pump etc,, dual turbos m no space due to a radiator mounted too close to the engine, or a dozen other potential issues is hardly a new problem
the solution can be obtained rather easily,
OBVIOUSLY IF YOU POSTED SEVERAL CLEAR PICTURES,
(ESPECIALLY if you include a few posted measurements)
IT WOULD HELP A GREAT DEAL
if you can measure and fabricate custom brackets, all you'll need is a dependable way to spin the alternator, (and no it does not need to spin constantly) but it will need to spin most of the time to charge the battery reliably
obviously you'll need to think things through
Ive seen guys fabricate custom brackets on the trans mission yoke to drive a belt driven alternator in the past.
your only limited by your imagination and fabrication skills and tools you have access to!
sit down and think through your options carefully, you need a dependable component that can be modified to drive a Gilmer or v-belt and a place to mount a custom fabricated bracket to mount the alternator
this is one more in an endless list of reasons having a decent drill press, a 12" dial caliper, and a welder that you know how to use is about mandatory in this hobby.
your only limited by your potential lack of imagination, skills and tools like a drill press and welder
,or what you can design and draw plans for, that your local machine shop can build for you
that might make acquiring custom mount brackets , spacers, adapters etc. and associated parts hard to fabricate!
just because a parts not easy to buy off the shelf for your particular application, in no way limits what you can build/fabricate or use.
you can use a differential yoke modified with a v-belt drive pulley to drive an alternator, and yeah there are other options, get creative
if you can afford to buy one a MILL is a great shop tool addition
and every drill press need an adjustable vise, vises like this are cheap junk
remember your not limited to factory or OEM ALTERNATOR ,
LOCATIONS OR USE OF OEM ALTERNATOR BRACKETS OR LOCATIONS
and
you can run a secondary fan belt off an already used accessory,
so maybe a custom fan belt pulley running in tandem with something,
like the water pump, power steering pump or dry sump oil pump,
could be fabricated with some careful measuring and ingenuity
