With 87 octane pump gas static compression needs to kept around 8.4- 8.8 :1 with a mild cam and cast iron heads.
Aluminum special coated for Marine use to prevent corrosion about 9.0 - 9.3 :1.
Low side is better in a Boat pulling a constant heavy load.

GM actually set the Static compression at 7.6 :1 on 87 octane gas.
8.4 :1 is 93 octane.
There are work arounds but can only push so far Chevy on 87 octane.

So…the project is back in motion. I pulled the trigger Thursday on the Dart SHP block through Carl Hinkson of CNC Blocks Northeast. Last week I bought a set of Compstar H-beam rods to replace the Scat I-beams that were a water damage casualty. I’ve sent the components(crank, rods, pistons, harmonic balancer) to Carl for him to go through and balance the rotator and he should be getting the block in next week. I’ll post pictures as I get them.

Carl Is Ok.
Know him from Facebook race engine groups.
Was Mad at him Fighting with Chad S.
Chad is a friend of mine, personal friends list.
But He backed off.
Carl went on a Anti China Tirade war.
Parts shortages too.
Makes him A-ok in my book.
Carl does good work.

I saw him on a forum and first talked to him over the phone about it in late 2019. I could tell he was really passionate about what he did and he was willing to spend time discussing my build without any skin in the game. The project was pretty much on hold for awhile but I reached back out to him about a month ago and he told me about the block(and parts in general) shortage. Then last week he told me a block came available through his supplier so I pulled the trigger.
