now this looks like it has potential

Update on NFA Rules
I had an interview with the ATF yesterday and we got on the topic of NFA rules.

As of two days ago, you no longer need a trust for suppressors, SBR's and machine guns. They can now goto the individual and DO NOT require CLEO sign off anymore.

They changed the rule as people were abusing the trust and convicted felons and others were added to trusts and gaining access to weapons they should not have access to.

She also stated the many CLEO were not signing off on them unless they were in a trust or not signing off at all, which was part of the issue.

She said they just changed the rule about two days ago and there should be info being posted shortly explaining everything.

It was also stated that they are running 6-9 months right now to clear the checks. They are very backed up.

Thought some of you would like to know.

How Does Final Rule 41F Change Current NFA Regulations?
The final rule affects the NFA regulations by:

  • defining the term “responsible person,” as used in reference to a trust, partnership, association, company, or corporation;
  • requiring responsible persons of such trusts or legal entities to complete ATF form 5320.23, National Firearms Act Responsible Person Questionnaire and to submit photographs and fingerprints when the trust or legal entity files an application to make an NFA firearm or is listed as the transferee on an application to transfer an NFA firearm;
  • requiring that a copy of all applications to make or transfer a firearm, and the specified form for responsible persons (5320.23), be forwarded to the chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) of the locality in which the applicant/transferee or responsible person resides; and
  • eliminating the requirement for certification signed by the CLEO.
  • (this was important as many CHIEF LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS IGNORED THE LAW OR FLAT REFUSED TO SIGN PAPERWORK, EFFECTIVELY DENYING THE PERSON THE ACCESS TO THE OTHERWISE LEGALLY OBTAINABLE FIREARM
  • In addition, the final rule adds a new section to ATF’s regulations to address the possession and transfer of firearms registered to a decedent.

Are you NOW still a LEO or ever been? You must be to get a sit down with the BATFE. Maybe that is why you haven't responded to my links on building guns at home . It's still legal in all 50 States, according to the BATFE. Try looking up P.A. Luty[sp] from GB on his home built weapons in a country that banned them, Expedient Home Made Firearms.

I really like the idea of people building custom rifles that exactly meet their needs and personally the more, people in the U.S.A, that do take advantage of this right, the better!
the more legal mil-spec ,AR and M1a, and AK, clones built in civilian hands that are not on the feds books the better in my opinion,and the more guys that reload for their own needs the better.

no Ive never been a L.E.O. although several of my hunting buddies are or were.
personally I think any grown male that does not own at least a decent 12 ga or a single quality fire arm in his home is some what suspect, how can you possibly provide for your family's protection without the basic tools to do so, like a couple fire extinguishers, first aid kit , a cell phone, a good pistol or 12 ga riot gun, home alarm system etc. you carry a spare tire in most cars simply because the threat exists, you could be stranded without it, and as an adult head of the family, you need to have the means to defend yourself if your confronted by home invaders or potentially mugged, my keds (38 and 32 years old now ) both have CCW licences and so do my wife and myself and ALL of us carry most of the time, AS DO, most of my friends and neighbors!
I don,t think its any more or less sensible than having a couple fire extinguishers or a spare tire, tools and a jack in your trunk, you don,t expect to need them very often, and can go decades without using them in any emergency, but you damn sure better have them and know how to use them in a rare emergency!
