"hey grumpyvette?
I went to floor it to pass someone (1986 Auto) and then all the sudden BAM tons of smoke, i pulled over and noticed lots of trans fluid leaking, hard to tell where it was coming from by looking at it on the side of the road. Only pours out when the vette is running. turn the vette off and it stops. was bad enough it would of probably dumped all of it out, so I got it towed home."

The Front seal where the convertor goes into trans case could be worn or defective or a trans cooler line may have a leak or the torque converter may have failed. remember thats lots of places for debris to collect once parts start to wear excessively

this would be an EXCELLENT TIME to swap to a 3000 rpm stall converter, and have a shop rebuild the transmission, you sure don,t want to go thru all the work only to find the trans is internally damaged and you need to go thru the whole process a second time PLUS have a new trans and possibly a new converter, remember if the trans fails theres a good chance debris gets pumped up into the converter and cooler lines, and the radiator trans cooler, guys forget that, install a new trans without flushing the old converter and coolant lines and are back replacing EVERYTHING in a few months time.
