yes we all tend to see things posted and think..
WTF is that guy, that posted that, bit of info thinking....
sometimes its simply a case of not clearly explaining some process or test,or check sequence, of events carefully, sometimes the question being responded to is really vague or lacks a great deal of needed reference info, to allow the precicely needed answer to be posted,
at other times its just lack of experience or bad advice,
yes it takes years and experience gained (usually gained the hard way, by screwing things up) before we learn to step back and ask questions or reach for reference materials.
but that does not necessarily mean that the advice should not be read, when if you see an obvious mistake or omission you can point that out without and drama or personal referances.
yes most of the more experienced mechanics spot a dozed mistakes or omissions in most longer threads, yes its helpful to point out ways to look up cross checks, factory specs or reference materials,but keep in mind, theres not a single person on this or any other site that can,t learn a great deal from reading through the forum threads ,on this and several other web sites, and yes theres a great deal of mis-information, "tonge in cheek" bad advice, etc. everything posted by everyone on any site should be cross checked for validity and accuracy, thats one reason I've strongly suggested anyone who gets into this hobby buy the correct shop manual and a basic set of testing tools like vacuum gauges, fuel presure gauges,timing lights, dial indicators, degree wheels, code scaners, FUEL/AIR RATIO meters, multi meters, ETC.
yes many guys don,t have the tools or the experience necessary to post good logical advice and LORD KNOWS we ALL omit or forget to post helpful related info at times, but most of us use the forums and threads to pick up tips or find answers.
If you see some info posted that you can add too or improve on, its rather helpful to post additional comments clearing up, any confustion or pointing out ways the process might be better handled but its never going to be helpful to verbally take someone on personally and call them on mistakes. it generally causes hard feelings, that can be avoided.
