ODBII Scanners

Since I have an 04 GMC Envoy XUV and an 05 Pontiac G6 racking up the miles and years as daily drivers. I had been looking at ODBII scanners and software. Ended up buying the setup from Autoenginuity http://www.autoenginuity.com/products/scan-tool.html I'll get some screen shots and first impressions posted soon after I spend some quality time with it. I'm not having any problems with the cars now but a month ago I had a coil on plug crap out on the Envoy and could have diagnosed it myself quickly. Figure it will pay for it self after a few uses. Curious what other guys are using for scanners?

Re: ODBII Scaners

Snap On Modis at work with Software 2013.
At home Snap On Red Brick scanner with programable cartridges & troubleshooter to 2008 model year.
And Vintage software cartridges that work best on my '87 C4 Corvette.
Old cartridges show live data parameters not shown on modern scanners.
Actually better than old GM Tech 1 on my Corvette.

Re: ODBII Scaners

the only problem I see is that every time I buy a scanner or scanner soft ware I find that within 6 months theres something new that far exceeds the old choices and usually at a similar or lower price, Id suggest you also look at software you can download and an AdL cable too connect to your cars computer access port

Re: ODBII Scaners

The Snap On Red Brick is the MT2500.
Its ugly & no Bells & Whistles.
Still performs good today.
As long as You have Global OB2 option software as I have it works on anything.
Just not on BMW or Mini Cooper.
Its outdated but I don't care.
Gets me in & I can begin diagnosing.
Paid $125 on Fleabay.
Really.
Won auction during lunchtime back in 2007.

I bought one of these cheap. Though the website seems to offer updates, there are none. The company was sold/bought out, so it is an orphan.

It works for the vehicles I have and several that my relatives and friends own. It doesn't do anti lock brakes or air bag but has done pretty much everything else I have wanted it to do. If you can find it cheap, I think it is a bargain. If you pay full price expecting updates you will be disappointed.

It did come with software and many cables. It does injector gain%, which helped me diagnose the need for injectors. It reads trouble codes and whether sensors are functioning/ what the sensor is reading. Id would have bought a Snappy Brick but didn't find a cheap one. I'm also looking to add a SnapOn mt2400 graphing Meter to help diagnose malfunctioning sensors.

yeah! I bought that same auto-xray 6000 , it works, and 9 years ago, and paid what I thought was big bucks at the time (over $400) when it first came out it was neat! and helpful!

but its not what I now consider the best value, simply because the technology it uses is now near obsolete, compared too
the software & laptop, and ALDL cable combos that are computer compatible and easily custom programmable
you can find for sale now, from several sources, and get for less cash outlay, that do far more!

If your fixing all daily its hard to beat a Snap On Modis.
Craiglist & Fleabay.

The Red Bricks Snap On Scanners are only good for Limited use at home.
Works nice on my old C4 Vette.
I paid only $120.
With programable cartridges. I would not pay more than $200.
Really outdated.

Shoot, nine years ago, the manufacturer was probably still supporting it. I'm sure I paid less than $300 shipped probably four or so years ago. At the time it seemed to do everything the more expensive units did for much less. It has paid for its self at least three or four times so far.

every mechanic needs an ANALOG multi meter for testing capacitors with a micro farad scale, AND a DIGITAL MULTI METER

Ive been playing with a friends scanner, for OBDII (1996 and newer cars)
it works with a down loaded app on your blue tooth comparable I-phone/I-pad without a connecting cord, it seems to work reasonably well
and its only $100.00 so its priced lower mid range
