Parts Needed For Retrofit Roller Cam Swap

Hey all, just want to make sure I don’t forget any parts for a future retrofit roller cam swap.

- intake gasket
- timing chain cover gasket
- water pump gasket
- distributor gasket
- oil pan gasket
- roller lifters (the ones that come paired up and articulated)
- roller cam o_O
- distributor gear not needed
- assembly lube
- silicone sealant
- thread lock
- cam button
- cam lock plate

Now I should not yet order the pushrods because that needs to be determined by measuring.

I plan to measure using one of those blue, plastic “pushrod length checkers” and an adjustable length pushrod - the one you count revolutions to determine the length. I just don’t know how long it would need to be. Presumably due to the roller lifters they need to be significantly shorter than what I have.

Other than that did I miss anything?

you might want to consider a new cloyes timing chain

.
Several of these items are certainly optional, but would be a good time to replace since you
are already there.

- Oil & Filter
- Harmonic Damper Puller & Installer
- New Harmonic Damper ???
- If there are any doubts about the water pump, now is the time to replace it
- New belts
- New hoses and clamps
- Thermostat

I like the Right Stuff in the pressurized tube. I find it easier to apply a consistent bead on
the china walls for the intake manifold.
.

Ha !!! Oil filter. Of course :D

Thanks gents !!

The timing chain is a new Cloyes set. Hoses are new. New damper. Water pump also looks new; that was a good idea.

I can get a loaner set of damper puller/installer... but it might be time to have my own. o_O

Thermostat is also new... all go ideas.

The Right Stuff ?? A brand of silicone sealant ?

7.300 is the projected length of the pushrod. So the tool needs to encompass that.

It's $7 cheaper on Amazon, but that probably doesn't help you.

The can is pressurized, so all you have to do is pull the trigger and guide the nozzle. Much
easier to get the right bead size consistently all the way across the china walls. You might
want to do a couple of practice runs on some cardboard before going to the engine.

youll want too verify the correct valve train geometry and push rod length,
just to be sure its correct , on any engine with a new cam installed,
never assume anything

Yes, I agree with Grumpy! A new timing set is in order for sure! Dorian, are you going to pull the engine to do this? If so, might be wise to pull the heads and verify TDC your balancer!

Thanks gents!! This will be an in-car cam swap.

New timing set: check.

Unfortunately the right stuff is not easily available here. Many chemicals are tough to get.

Maybe someone here can get you some and ship it to you! It’s only like 15 bux here, what would it cost to ship it to Belgium?

Most appreciated but it’s not that simple. A product like this cannot be shipped without very specific packaging accompanied by tedious paperwork. Most of the challenge is figuring out what the required paperwork and packaging actually is.

I think it would be easier to pull the engine for this for me it would be because I couldn't lean over the car for that length of time without paying a big price

Dorian just changed the engine so everything should be removable with no rusted and gaulded bolts and no surprises you still need to remove the hood and rad either way but with it out just more access to pull the heads and intake and to use the degree wheel to time the cam
