Planning a new 383 build that is now going to be a 400

Thanx Rick, it was no piece of cake. I am glad its done, I still have to clean it up and do some painting. My friend Tim is gonna help with the ac evaporator. I am thinking instead of just the fender, we might pull the front clip to get the ac evaporator. I want to do some painting on the front suspension also while I am at it with cross member and mounts. It would make it easier when putting the engine in the car.

Got the frame mounts cleaned up, and ready to pull the front clip tomorrow. Few pics!

Okay boys and girls, either thursday or friday my baby's gonads are gonna be exposed. My buddy and I are gonna pull the front clip and get to see her in all her glory and get cleaned up and some new paint.

I don't have any pictures, but we got the front clip off the car and once it stops raining I am going to start the massive clean up and painting of the sub frame. I have also pulled the steering column out in favor of the tilt steering column acquired a few year ago. I have put in new bearings that were quite a chore and did some clean up and painted it black pearl semi gloss like the old column, I still have to get a fancy steering wheel for a hot rod though. I also pulled the brake booster and master cylinder off. The booster was cleaned up and painted black crinkle, master cylinder lid was also painted black crinkle, body of the master cylinder was emptied, cleaned up and stuffed with dry lint free cloth. The body of it was painted my engine color "red fire". I will be replacing the rubber brake lines once all the painting is done. The front plastic grille isn't in great shape, but the non-availability of a Nova SS replacement has prompted me to possibly custom fabricate one out of 3/4 wide 1/8 or 3/16 flat bar, a tig welder would be handy so I could do it in aluminum, but I think I can do it with carbon steel and still do it justice. I will get pictures when I can of the progress.

yes a few detailed pictures would go an enormous way towards making the progress on the project easier to understand

Here are a few pictures of the progress. The picture of the sub frame is kinda fuzzy, it was cold outside and I must have been shaking a lil bit when I snapped the picture.

It seems you are getting further away from finishing, but sometimes you
have to do that to get the results you want.

Yeah, I know it seems that way. I just want to get all the stuff done in the engine bay before I put the engine in the car. It has needed all this stuff all this time. Once I get all this done and have a clean engine bay I can move forward with the rest of the car. I was going have to pull the passenger side fender which would have been just as painful as pulling the front clip. I wanted to get the ac evaporator off remember, and I am going to clean up the wiring harness for that side of the engine bay, engine circuits and heater blower motor is all that will be left over there. I am going to clean everything up and get it painted, change out the rubber brake lines and I should be done with all that stuff.

I got the inner wheel wells out, cleaned up and painted today. I bought every can of satin black that the local parts stores had. Here is a picture. I got the portioning valve off , hood latch off the front clip, cleaned and painted those also, but don't have pictures of them.

I have a question, there is a line that attaches to the very back of the portioning valve and goes under the body and returns up to the windshield fluid reservoir via a rubber line. Does anyone know what that line is for? Is it mandatory, what can I do with it?

They look nice! I'm thinking I'll do a quick and dirty respray of the engine bay, when the engine swap happens... Doubt it'll look as good as yours..

brake proportioning valve (?) attaching to windshield fluid....? I have no idea...

I did some more on the front clip got it all cleaned up and painted here are a few pics.

I painted the front air damn on the front and bolted it on also, you can see it hanging down in the first pic.

Looks Great Bob.
Keep at it.
The Old Girl will Breathe Fire again soon !

Hey guys got all the painting done, and reassembled the front clip, I did a little on the new grille last night and after I got the clip back together I concentrated on it the rest of the day, I got the frame built and all I have left to do it set up the mounts for the turn signals and I will be painting it and it will joint the front clip. I am going to paint the grill satin black like the rest of the clip. Here are a few pics to log the progress:

Does anybody have a answer for my question? There is a line that runs off the portioning valve for the brakes, it runs down under the body comes back up via a rubber hose to the windshield wiper reservoir, it looks like some kind of vent to me. What is it for and is it mandatory, can I put a rubber plug on the line and be done with it?

Hey Guys, did some more on the grille today, I got it finished and ready to paint. I mounted it on the front clip and modified the fastening points with better fasteners. Here is a picture of it mounted to the front clip, what do you guys think do I need to put some wire mesh behind it to stop small particles from getting to the radiator? Any suggestions on what to use for the mesh?

I should have put the tranny cooler back on for some porn, but oh well!

You could use Window screen Bob.
Spray paint it Black to Conceal .
