Planning a new 383 build that is now going to be a 400

I was and still am not a fan of longer shackles, it add a bit more degree of side flex to the spring. I like to add a block between the spring and perch instead.
Or better yet, replace the perch with a taller one.
Another trick I use is to add ladder bars with either a shackle or slot on the front of the bar that is attached to the frame. This allows the springs, to cycle
the axle back without binding. You can also fine tune the pinion angle also. It still provides a smooth ride.

I do like the stance you have too! All my cars were sitting a bit higher than stock, but Level. Never cared for the airshock jacked up look.
Here is a picture of one of the cars my wife and I owned when we were younger.

Hey that an exact copy of my first car, Cragar mags and all!

:) I SOOO much miss that car!
We sold it in 1989 for $5000 to help with the down payment on our first house.
It had a slightly modified 327 and th350 in it.

I read that and picked up on the typo Rick, but thought it was funny how it got posted.
Were ALL getting old! :)

Mine had a 396 that was not anywhere close to stock, it was 40 plus years ago and I had about 2k in the engine . Back then that was a small fortune. It also had Muncie M22 rock crusher tranny and just like you I wish now that I had kept that car. It was definitely a handful when you pushed your foot to the floor. I used about 20 bux in gas a week, (premium bout 75 cents/gallon), yeah I had a lead foot!

Well actually my Dad and I built it together, kinda has sentimental value. That's the reason I have kept it this long. I was seventeen when we built it, the pump is the air pump off of a B25 bomber's landing gear, so really its older than 40 years, probably that much more. Oh I forgot, the air compressor is a McGraw, my wheel lugs are McGard.

Just got back from Ok city, had a funeral for a cousin! I stopped at Rick’s place and picked up 200-4R core for my tranny build! Looks kinda nasty now but once I get it apart I will clean up the case and knock off all the casting flash, get a good smooth surface for a nice paint job!image.jpg

Thought about what you said about the holding device! I may build it to bolt to the bell housing and tranny mount!

image.jpg Okay Guys, the tranny case is a universal, but I want it to look like a Chevy tranny! So I took my TH 350 and traced a pattern to transfer to the overdrive tranny and I will cut off the extra! Pic of the pattern!

What are the Codes on the Trans Bob ?
Rick cut the BOP ears off of his 200 R4 to fit in the T.

Rick is the 200 R4 expert.
Dorien sort of was....he once told me he had his 200R4 in and out of his TT Chevy Laguna SS with its Supercharged 400 Dart Little M SBC 7 times on his back in his Brick driveway.
He said he got lucky the 7 th time overhaul..

Buick Grand National Core 1986-87 the best.

Already ran the numbers on the tranny, it is the Buick Grand National core, so I have a good starting point!
