Planning a new 383 build that is now going to be a 400

Hey Grumpy, from looking at that link, looks like 16 inches of collector will do the trick. I am thinking of using a set of cutouts I already have to extend the collector and it will give me a way to run open headers if I run it at the strip. The kit I am going to buy has about 9 inches and my cutouts are about the same so I will have to trim some off somewhere.

adding or cutting an inch or two,
on a header collector seldom makes a really noticeable seat of the pants change in power,
you generrally see the result only on a dyno graph.
and a change of an inch or two.. darn sure is all but meaningless,
if theres a full length exhaust system behind the collector

So it would be ok to have them at 18 rather than the suggested 16 inches per that link?

it will make only a very minor difference either way,
and no difference with an exhaust system attached

I am looking at with addition of an x pipe and moving the tail pipes that will involve the majority of the system, starting over and running the them out in front of the rear tires Daytona style! Increasing to 2 1/2 in pipe, the mufflers are already that size as are the exhaust tips!
