I was reading some threads on big cubic inches for c3s. Big block Chevy vs. Small block Chevy. I was thinking of the 2nd gen Camaros and Firebirds. Wasn't the 455 Pontiac the same size as the 301? A pontiac motor is kind of an in between size compared to bbc & sbc. Seems like it would fit nicely in a c3. Hey Firebirds had chevy swaps all the time. seems like a 455 pontiac could be used in a c3 with custom motor mounts and a bpo bellhousing. I'm thinking a cheap rebuildable 455. Go with a decent cam, the right valve springs in stock heads & intake w/ spreadbore holley, stock iron exhaust manafolds and it might be doable on a small budget. How much cash to build a stock455 Ponti shortblock compared to a 426sbc (4bolt main) shortblock? Crazy idea? Opinions welcome.

after having built a few dozen Pontiac performance engines and really liking them, and having priced parts on a few lately I think youll find it much cheaper and easier to find and install a 454 chevy engine

just what you save in cost, time spent and aggravation getting custom headers for a Pontiac powered corvette added to the much higher resale value of a big block Chevy engine alone will make use of a big block Chevy a much better value in the long run., yes you could instal a 455 Pontiac in a c3 corvette if your good at fabrication minor parts , but what you have once you complete the swap may not be what you really want, simply because no mater how well the car runs its resale value and those people willing to buy it will be reduced, compared to a similar corvette with an equally well running big block chevy engine.
and trust me when I say finding the parts and building a really impressive 455 or larger Pontiac is going to be harder and more time intensive, and in most cases MORE EXPENSIVE than building and installing a Chevy big block of equal power.
SURE ITS SOMETHING YOU COULD DO! BUT THINK IT THRU!
