powder coating

your local phone directory should have a local powder coating company, most of these guys will do small projects , especially if your willing to use colors they are already using, in most cases that's blacks, reds, blues and silver, but any color can be found or used
In a very simplified explanation, powder coating consists of carefully cleaning down to bare metal, spraying on a special coating and baking the component in high heat to give it a very thin almost glass like in many case or textured in appearance coat or finish on the surface, a coating that's better at rust resistance than most paints
have you ever considered having the valve covers, intake manifold, etc. powder coated?
the process and quality you can expect too see, once its completed, has improved dramatically in recent years and a glass smooth, or even a textured finish in hundreds of colors is available?
yeah! just like everything else theres good , bad and excellent and less than acceptable results and thats mostly dependent on the skill and experience of the guys doing the work,so it pays to ask for detailed references and to inspect previous customers results.
Most of the better shops do impressive work at a good price /value, obviously if the goal is to get the best surface possible and have it remain firmly in place, you'll need to have proper surface preparation done, prior to the powder coating being applied, this requires a de-grease and bead blast, or acid etch, too (depends on both the surface and condition, obtain the rough micro surface required to allow the melted powder coating to mechanically grip, and in some cases chemically bond, too the coated under surface. any experienced professional shop will provide the required prep as part of the surface application at a small charge, if asked.

Hey All,
There is a custom powder shop in CA that I work for. We have done many custom projects with many top builders and perfectionists in their fields. We can powder coat everything, from the body to the A-arms and in between, as long as it doesnt melt in my oven we can coat it, and if we cant we will get you something that will work. Please check out our website for info and a bunch of cool pics, to show you what can be done as well as what we can do. And let me know if you have any questions or concerns about powder coating, becasue I hate when the wrong information is floating around out there, and if i can help please let me know. Im posting some pics below of some things we recently did.

before you get involved in powder coating any component check your local commercial powder coating business, you might find out that , its just not all that expensive to have many parts powder coated professionally , Ive had intakes and valve covers powder coated for less than $40
are you planing on powder coating or having the headers chrome plated or at least painted?
