one of my neighbors rather stupidly left his tool box, similar to this one,
in the open pick-up truck bed while he ran into home depot ,
to get a few things he needed, he saw a couple tools on sale and bought those.
on returning to the truck ,
at what he swears was less than 12-14 minute's later,
he goes to put the tools in his tool box only to find it long gone!
the tool box was locked but not bolted to the truck bed.
and naturally, no one saw a thing,
so hes now learned you don,t leave your tools in a truck bed,
and you damn sure better have a toolbox that both locks and is bolted to the truck if you're forced to carry tools in a truck.
its a damn shame there's so many thieves and most of us have to take constant measures to protect our tools.
it was luck in one respect, the toolbox was almost empty,
as he only had a few basic wrenches in it,
so he's only out a couple of hundred dollars,
and he's now shopping for a far better toolbox that bolts into the truck,
a locking bed cover that will lock over the toolbox in the truck bed,
and a new set of open/box end mostly metric and a few SAE wrenches.
and of course, thinking more about security issues as a result

yeah, another reason you need a decent MIG WELDER
and yeah its inconvenient but in today's world its almost mandatory.
a couple of lengths of 1/4" thick 3" angle iron, some serious thought,
into how to secure a toolbox,
to the truck bed and a welder a few carriage bolts and locks,
can add a great deal to the time and difficulty it might require to break into a truck toolbox.
adding motion sensors,truck alarms, and a siren would not hurt either.

and basic replacement wrenches,
