I noticed so many of Pontiac Quadrajet carbs have the same numbers "xxxx262", 64, 68 just different build dates. I found a carb up on a shelf with this number 7040262 XA. When I searched Google I found many but (different 3rd digit for the year) on eBay, one with the same number, even the "XA" with just a different build date. All are saying 400, 455 GTO. Is the "XA" the code for GTO?
I already know this carb 70=Rochester, 4=early 1970s, 0=1970, 2=Quadrajet, 6=Pontiac, and 2 being an even number means it's for an automatic. I know the XA isn't code for a month because there is a date code of 2629. Is this carb worth holding onto? Prices seem to be all over the place (one for $200, another for $700 asking) but more than an average Chevy of the same year.
