Question on engine/tranny combo.

I'm building a 350, haven't had the block machined yet, but this where I ask. What would be a good engine combo to put in a '88 chevrolet 1500 truck, want to have a good amount of low end torque, with a good amount of horsepower, no particular goals, just a good running engine, has a 700r4 trans, and 3:54 gears, I think. I know i'm going to have to get a torque converter to match the rpm band of the intake and heads and cam selection. I would like to engine to stay computer controlled with TBI.

Any recommendations?

those performance requirements would be well matched to a 383 with about 9:1-9.3:1 compression, vortec cylinder heads, a stock converter would work but a 2200-2300rpm stall would work noticeably better,and a cam similar to this, with 1.6:1 ratio rockers and long tube 1 5/8" headers
