Quieter 4 In Muffler.

This truck is embarrassing for me to drive. Looking to replace the FloPro 24 in diesel muffler on the truck with a 383 tpi and 4 in stainless exhaust with mid length headers and cat. This is probably not the ideal size pipe- but it stays for now. Existing FloPro muffler is a straight through design which I knew might be an issue going in but needed to try anyway- has similar construction to Magnaflow although MF is likely far higher quality..I would prefer to try something of different design. Looked at a lot of mufflers and although I would prefer not to- I could use reducers and move to a 3.5 in muffler such as two ganged Hooker Aerochambers, or perhaps the middle tier choice from Donaldson in a 4in, length shouldn't be an issue but don't want their single chamber design and may not need their Silent Partner design. I do have a problem understanding the dB ratings as they relate to gas engines. At this point I would take a hit on performance in favor of quiet. Have used Walker UltraFlows in the past and they fell apart inside. Looking at Borla Multi Core- but that would be an expensive experiment.

you could buy 4 of the ones I linked to for the price of one of the ones you linked and two of the ones I linked,
if you have one muffler you only need two,
if you have a dual muffler system buy four
to mig weld in each muffler facing so the flow twist reverses one to the next is surely less restrictive
I wish you were local this would be a rather interesting,
Id love to help if you had the truck available to drive to my shop,
this mod should be fairly cheap and surely effective way to reduce the exhaust sound
now I doubt it would be a huge drop in DB, but it without a doubt should be very noticeable
the 3.5" spiral baffle 11 inchs long should easily fit in the 4 inch exhaust pipe inside the muffler and easily mig weld in place

What's your take. The muffler is a 24 inch FloPro straight through perforated type (9 inch dia if I remember right)- reviews say they degrade rather quickly. If you replace with same type only in a MagnaFlow similar size- would this be a positive move or change completely to a baffled/chamber style? Also looking at commercial 'bus' mufflers. This is a well build single 4 inch system: Edelbrock mid length TES headers, 2.5 in collectors to a 3.5 in FloMaster Y, through a 3.5 in metal cat. This SS kit was meant for the GM 6.5L turbo diesel, I didn't use the front of the kit. The 4 in auger seems to be a little harder to source- the 3.5 in may be a very sloppy fit.

4" will not fit inside, a 3.5" will fit and function rather effectively
the repetitive spiral baffles in the direct exhaust flow pipe,
reflect and force sound waves to bounce back partially canceling and diminishing sound
