ddeennis posted this on a different site, I thought it was well worth posting here as a reminder that buying used components is not always the least expensive or best time conserving route, in fact many times it takes longer and costs more in time and money

"QUOTE+ real world cost of building budget blower
Finally ALMOST done waiting on two parts to knock this out. My blower pulley spacer and idler pulley.

Just going thru all the reciept and purchases, most was done on ebay bought some small stuff local.

This total includes my mistakes, yes mistake was made buying parts that was wrong or not needed and I have some parts I bought twice because tired of waiting for delivery or the part didn't work right. I bought some parts that just wasn't needed at all but I wanted and since I was coming under budget I bought the extra.

I will list some thing back onto ebay to recover some money but I won't include that in my total since I still have it on hand.

This includes mistakes and purchasing some extras and doubles, so it can be done cheaper, most of these parts was new from ebay, a lot of the little stuff adds up quick, shop supplies like carb cleaner , brake cleaner many shop towels, trash bags, paints, welding wire, metal for making all new brackets.

The biggest pain was the damn short water pump, there is no brackets just to buy and bolt on, they don't fit my engine compartment since its an 80 camaro with inner fenderwells and a bbc never came factory in this car.

I had to make my own alternator brackets and power steering brackets and get everything to line up.

Next pain was the blower rebuild, it's not so much a pain now since I know how to do it, the timing and making sure the clearences was right I was having a hard time understanding c and cc but I have it figured out now, it took a couple of days of reading and research to understanding the set up. the best information i found was a miltary book on rebuilding blowers online ( my dvd and supercharger books suck for this information)

the rebuild was easy don't get me wrong a monkey can do that, it's the clearences and how to check them correctly that got me confussed and frustrated"

I'll make adjustment to my list of parts if I forgot to mention anything and give and update or two as I wait for my last two parts from Hampton Blowers
