Refresh 1982 crossfire vette

I used Fel Pro Racing Header gaskets for years.
Typical life street driving was 10,000 miles or so.

Grumpy likes Copper Header gaskets.
I used them once. Ok to me but all surfaces must be perfect flat for no Leaks.

Remflex solid Graphite Header gaskets are my Favorite.
No Leaks now after 15,000 miles driving on the street in my 63 Pontiac.

Stage 8 Locking header bolts are excellent.
ARP Header bolts are excellent.

Hi, guys, I'm thinking about a electric fan or fans on this refresh. What about c.f.m. that I may need, and, do I need to change the alternator for more amperage? Thanks

I am Using a Flex-A-Lite Syclone Fan #398 on my 1987 Corvette.
Gets the Job Done with the Big Griffin Radiator I installed.
The Syclone Fan is rated at 2500 CFM's.
Its almost Whisper quiet the Fan when Running.
It does move More Air than the stock 1984-1989 C4 Single electric Fan That I can tell.

I switched to the Later 1990-1996 Corvette Entire radiator fiberglass box to use a Big Griffin radiator.
The early 1984-1989 radiator is tiny.
Much larger come 1990 & Up.
Same Layout used on 1990-1995 C4 ZR-1.

On Big Block Musclecars you want 5,000-10,000 cfms.
In real world its impossible unless you have a large truck.
Biggest electric fan package made for Trucks is 7500 cfm & costs $900.00.

Want at least 2500 cfm Fan(s).

I use a CS144 Alternator On my 87 Corvette.
I modded to make it fit last summer.

I had too many CS130 Alternators die even ones I built myself.
Not a good heavy duty alternator at all.

CS144 I think is Best.
I build them.

Guys down South like Georgia have Reported only a Factory Clutch Fan layout gives 100 percent reliable cooling in a C3 Corvette.

Thanks these answers, just bring more question, if put this fan system in my vette
Flex-A-Lite 480 - S-Blade X-Treme Universal Dual Elec Fan Includes adjustable thermostat with variable speed control and AC relay
what alternator would you recommend? thank
I would have to look for more Specs later after work. 5Pm is coming up.
Current amp draw continuous.
Startup current is often 80-150 amps peak I have measured with a clamp on digital amp meter.
There are soft start fan controls.

CS144 is the Best High Amp non PWM Controlled alternator there is for GM.
DR44 is what is used on modern LS Vettes and LS Trucks. PCM Car computer controls the alternator field current supply separate.

Stocking up to build more CS144 Alternators. Few to sell.
Gotta get more cores. Out of them present.

Powermaster is ok.
Took one apart I bought years back a ln XS CS130 High amp.
Found Low cost china parts.
It blew up failed on my Vette.
Was dissaponted. $330 bucks spent.

I have looked into Ford Alternators on GM.
3G & 4G. High amp all self contained like a CS144.
Problems to work out yet.
GM guys dont like Ford parts to begin with besides the Ford 9 inch rear diff.

Got my own CS144 high amp alternator built and installed on my 63 Gp This Sunday.
1-wire hookup. Self exciting after engine startup.

Why not add up all your circuits and calculate a number, then add something to that for head room.
Your fan is rated at 39 amps, so that plus everything else you have. The values below are just a guideline,
so do your research before buying.

When looking at the curves below you will have to calculate the alternator RPM using your pulley
sizes. But it's easy to see how much more the CS144 puts out at low rpm, exactly where you needed
it when sitting in traffic.

Or you can just buy the biggest CS144 you can find and be done with it.

Lowest cost CS144 is from a parts store. Under $100.
Everthing has China made parts now in it.
Unless its hand built.
Like by a guy such as myself.
I drive 900 miles a week for work.
Over 50k a year.
China parts I find.
Stuff breaks down at the worst time.

Power Master has China stuff inside.
Welcome to the Global Market.

The Guys on the TA forum today were talking about Brand new Kaufman Racing intake manifolds not fitting correct on Pontiac V8's..China made.
Ditto for Edelbrock also since Vic Edelbrock died.
Suspect china now also.
