you might also consider a 383 stroker kit upgrade, in a 10:1 short block config
with the newer and better heads matched with the larger displacement,
higher compression and mild cam like a
flat tappet hydraulic

or an improved hydraulic roller cam:D

would easily result in a 50-60 hp boost and 40-45 extra ft lbs of torque, minimum,
over what a 350 built to similar specs would produce

making the whole engine more responsive and easy to drive, especially,
in the 1400rpm-5000rpm power band you spend 90% or more of the cars drive time in.
yeah, it costs more but its going to be very docile,
make the cam seem even milder,
yet responsive and work with the stock gearing,
converter stall, and power brakes.
on average a 383 SBC will produce similar power and more torque than a similar 350 sbc,
at about 500 rpm lower at each rpm point in the power band

while thats true , but, he had not for certain decided on rebuilding his current block,
or said he was certainly grabbing the offered vortec block as of that post,
the new roller blocks can use either lifter design,
although they are best if used with the roller lifter they were designed for,
keep in mind that from my point of view.. If your going to go through the time effort and outlay of cash,
you want to have an anvil solid build with a noticeable boost in power,
and in this case better than its original driveability ,
while still having driving characteristics,
his wife will not mind dealing with, like functional/decent power brakes,
and the transmission working well in traffic
