roll cage

at some point if your serious about having a high horse power car your going to be forced too install a roll cage to strengthen the frame, stiffen the suspension and add a good deal of extra safety in the even of a roll over accident, not to mention the fact is REQUIRED at most tracks by the time the car can run 11s in the 1/4 mile or faster at many tracks, and the stiffer frame makes the cars handling far more predictable

Ive used both friends have purchased the 16 ton rated ones SLIGHTLY easier to work with building roll cages, both are bottom line quality but far far less expensive than a professional shops pipe bender

no mater what mig welder you buy youll need shield gas tanks and a self darkening welders helmet, so figure on adding at least a few hundred dollars more to get it up and running.
I purchased a miller 252 MIG simply because I was damn frustrated at dealing with absurdly low duty cycles when using a freinds old mig welder and at the time I had a few extra bucks after selling a car, and dropped by the miller dealer and asaked a good deal of questions, the end result was I purchased a bit larger and more expensive welder than I need for 90% of what I do, but I don,t regret that money that was very well spent, yes at about $2400 its expensive but its a quality tool.

Ive used a friends miller 212 mig on several occastions and while its duty cycle is a bit less than my miller 252 its certainly able to easily handle most auto related mig welding chores, its cost is close to $2000, but again you tend to get what you pay for and hes never had a bit of trouble with this mig, in over 4 years

one of my neighbors bought this hobart welder and for the price, its certainly a bargain,it will handle most welding youll do on a car reasonably well for less than $1000 with some wire supplies
it lacks a few features but on most sheet metal and body work it more than adequate'
