Seperating the chassis from the body on a C5

I want to start out by saying that this is not a 100% detailed tutorial but does cover all the major points. If you need it any more detailed than this, you probably shouldn't be tackling it in the first place. ;)

I decided I was going to completely seperate both since I wanted to change out the motor and diff altogether and have the trans rebuilt. It just seemed easier to take it all out at once.
When I first started researching this, I went to my local Corvette dealer to see how much they would charge to do the seperation for me and then I would just pick up both pieces from them, change everything out and then have them put it back together. I was going to do this since I didn't have a lift at the time.
To begin with, their so called "Corvette Mechanic" told me it couldnt be done and that I would have to pick it up in 4 pieces(body, rear, front, and torque tube). He also qouted me $1300.00 just for the seperation, not including putting it back together,(something that looked like 4-5 hrs work.)

I told him no thanks. Bought a lift for $1500 and got after it. :D

Quick run down on the rebuild.
New motor - LS1 383(after tuning, should be in the area of 600HP)
Diff - replaced stock 2.73 with a new 3.42
Trans - Stage 3 rebuild
Otherthings I am doing - BBK Headers, PFADT hoses, line lock, new rotors and pads, dual cone intake, new exhaust, tailights tinted, body wetsanded for orange peel, rest of the underbody and engine bay cleaned up to look like new.
Coming soon - 100-300 shot nitrous.

I guess I should have added that this should be finished by later this week or early next and I will update the site as I go. All I am really waiting for is the transmission to come back.

good info!
where did you buy the lift,or get the design, for the lift, how did you actually lift the body off the drive train, and did you need to assemble the drive train stand from components you bought as a kit "IE D.I.Y weld it" or did YOU design it, from scratch, does it disassemble easily for storage!
I don,t see pictures of the lift off process but the drive train storage stand is impressive.

THATS IMPRESSIVE

The lift was purchased from a company online> Off the top of my head, I dont remember the name of the place.
It was shipped to my door complete. It was very easy to install, took me about 2 hrs.

If you are refering to the cart that the chassis sits on. That was 2 hrs of welding and approx $100 of 4" tubing, 4 wheels, and some bolts I had around the shop. Remove the bolts and it comes apart in 3 pieces for easy storage :D

The two below is really all there is. Nothing special about lifting it off once everything is undone. Just lift a little at a time and make sure you have everything unhooked.
