Don't forget the bus, I shipped a pair of 6X Pontiac heads a couple of years ago by bus from Salisbury, MD, to Connecticut. I paid $36 and he picked them up on a Sunday. I had a set of seats shipped to me from Ohio, front buckets and back seat from a '73 Buick Luxus, cost was around $65 and again I picked them up on Sunday morning at the station.

Don't you have to be near a bus route or station?

There's a show on the A&E channel called "Shipping Wars." Apparently people who are bonded and insured owning anything from a pick-up to a Semi bid on-line against each other to ship your shit. They get paid only upon delivery and if it's not on time (if that was a condition) you don't pay. If it arrives damaged and it's not recorded on the pick up inspections - but you still will accept delivery, you can opt to pay less or not at all and the shipper has to agree. I think the shippers take loads that will work into their other delivery routes so they don't dead-head. There are also shipping brokers but that's hit or miss.

Thats actually a pretty good idea Rich.
With small valuable packages a Corvette would be ideal to transport.
Larger packages a 4cyl 5-speed Ranger. The old ones like my 87 got 32mpg.
Mine rusted out bad at 415,000 miles.
Large packages & heavy of 500-5000 lbs would require a Big Diesel Truck or Semi Tractor Rig.
Flatbed Trailers with each.
