should you prefill your new oil filter with new oil at the new oil change, before it's installed?

thats been the standard advice for decades, as the idea is that on start-up
, there's far less delay on getting full oil pressure returning to the bearings with the new oil.
and yes prefilling the oil filter is still a great idea.

btw pouring your oil used oil thru a paint strainer filter to allow you to collect bits of trash or bits of metal or bearings ior gaskets etc, and cutting open the oil filter to inspect it is also a good idea

yes thats paint not oil, but you'll need to, use a paint filter to filter & inspect your engines old used oil the same way
if you find
evidence of bearing failure in the oil ,it means you need to do a rebuild before it gets a whole lot more expensive,
and it will , if you put that off!

most paint stores and harbor freight sell 50 filters for under $10
