"Situation:

You are on your very first ever elk hunt. You have drawn a tag in Wyoming. You have hired a very respectable outfitter and you will be hunting the first rifle week. You will be hunting for 5 days. You have been out for about 4 hrs on your first day when you come across a nice bull say 5x5, well within you range and a clear shot. The guide says that he has seen better bulls during archery season however it is up to you. Now you have spent alot of money for this hunt and who knows but this maybe your first and last time to elk hunt. What would you do? Before you answer, think back on your first elk hunt, did this happen to you, if so what did you do. If this did not happen to you, what would you have done if it did. This will be my first elk hunt and I have been going over this in my mind many of times.
Any and all input would be greatly appreciated."

your PAYING a guide who knows the area and its potential, and YOUR paying for advice and EXPERIENCE,I,d be looking for him for advise, Id also have had the discussion about what I was after, and the chances of finding it where we were hunting, LONG before I was in a location where I was actually able to shoot an ELK.
If it was my first hunt Id probably be very happy with a 5x5, but having hunted ELK for 4 decades , and having killed a few dozen in that time......I know that ANY 5x5 in most areas is a good ELK, and knowing its your first hunt....well theres about a 60% chance Id say drop him!
but again, your paying for advise and experience, if the guide says "PASS" I,d suggest you pass remember he wants you to succeed and hopes for a good TIP at the end of the hunt and WANTS you referring clients to him, so hes very unlikely to say pass unless he thinks chances are very good a better bulls in the cards
